I have a return flight BNE-SYD this Friday 24 September 2010 and returning Monday 27 September 2010 which I can no longer use. I am struggling to understand the terms and conditions of the Virgin Blue website. The flight is worth $181 including credit card fee and is a Blue Sver and a Go Fare. Will I have anything left if I cancel this flight?

Can I cancel this flight and then book another flight with the credit left on this one minus the $50 cancellaton fee? Is the cancellaton fee by booking or per sector? Can I do this online as I wast to avoid futher phone fees. Sorry for the silly questions but the Qatnas system is so simple.

I also had a $69 fligjht booked tomorrow for my father which he will ssimply not turn up and we can purcahse another $69 Go Fare next week. Is this the best decision or could we have dome something different.

I've had to change virgin flights once. It was a simple matter to just do a change and pay the $50 fee. I would suggest doing that for your dad's fare as the fare is transferred across so it will only cost $50. I would also suggest the same for your flights.

I'll turn on the computer to check out how to do it.

Just go into "view" your booking then at the bottom there is a change button. I just went through to dummy change my booking to the next day and it was a $50 fee only. Hopefully you get this tonight as you probably can't change it on the day of departure. (then again it is only $19)

Thanks. Not sure when dad will be going back so losing the extra $19 is no big deal.

AFAIK the Go fare can only be changed - you cannot cancel it.
So assuming I were to rebook the flights (assuming I can do this online) I will lose $50 change fee and any change in airfare.

Well this may not be as bad as I had originally thought.

Yes you can rebook online and pay the change fee plus any fare difference. Change fee is $50 fee for Go! and $45 for Blue Saver

Funny, this is a very common comment we hear from people trying us either for the very first time or after a very long period (although I know JohnK does not fall into this category and was referring specifically to fare change). Unfortunately the perception of Virgin Blue (as a face-painting, "whistle for attracting sharks" type of service) often lags reality by several years.

While the rules say cancellation is not permitted. There is one sure way to cancel the fare. ;)
Perhaps they are confusing cancel and refund.

Thanks for the reply Dave.

I hope I am not reading it wrong and would need to pay a change fee of $95 as I have a Blue Saver and a Go !Fare in the booking.

I think you are reading it right, John.
Going by how my day trip BNE-SYD return was handled back in July, each flight on the day was treated as a totally separate ticket as the ticket for each individual flight for the day incurred the credit card processing fee, and both my flights were Blue Saver fare types.

sorry to say the change fees apply per sector, not per booking (the exception is formal connecting flights where there are multiple sectors)
