Interestingly I happened upon an ACCC determination that allows Virgin Blue to status match Qantas Frequent Flyers (not that the notification says anything about who will be offered a status match!)
That sounds like a good idea which I am sure would suit some people.

I imagine it would be used in chasing corporate contracts.

But I'd prefer that the V-Lounges were not full of QFF freeloaders who hadn't earned their keep!
(Un)fortunately, I can confirm that Virgin Blue are status matching out of Canberra!

As a Qantas Frequent Flyer (excl bronze), take Virgin up on their offer you see on the billboard as you approach the airport (i.e. to visit The Lounge)... Write your details down on the list as you enter, and you get a phone call from Virgin Blue a few days later advising your new matched Virgin Blue status!

[For me: "WP" with Qantas FF; and as of now, Gold with Velocity.]

P.S. there is no late afternoon sun glare in the Virgin Lounge!

Well how about that!!!

I guess they are trying to remove every obstacle to gaining business from those who are attached to QF. Hope they succeed.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, I can confirm the same happened to me.

P.P.S in the late afternoon, there isn't a lot of noise, and there is plenty of spare seats in the Virgin Lounge at CBR. Pleasant change.

I wonder if they will start matching from other airports. Have a DJ flight out of Adelaide this weekend...wouldn't mind checking out the Lounge in Adelaide:mrgreen:

I very much doubt it. No coincidence that this promotion came soon after launch of SYD-CBR services.

Dont know if they do or not - i didnt notice anyhting today. Mind you having said that it isnt exactly the biggest lounge. Im not knocking DJ but i do have to say that it certainly is "cosy"... Still excellent service and good food, although hot food would have been nice but i suppose its better than nothing. Coffee is great too.

My biggest question is when is DJ going to introduce point upgrades to PE???

Are you listening DJ???? Out of the last week i have had 2 flights and literally noone sat in the first 3 rows at all aside from the hosties...

I wonder if they would do a match with QF silver and gold, and if so which levels they woul d be matched to. I imagine sillver->silver, but what would gold be matched to? Could go either way

Well, as a humble "Red", it's all a bit academic to me, but I have amassed the huge sum of 45,000 points, mainly through DJ's CC and phone promos.

Now, how best to redeem them?

Nothing wrong with being Red. You are certainly in good company!

Interesting - Perhaps QF noted what DJ were doing in CBR and complained to the ACCC??

I think they submitted it all before they even started the status matching. It can be quite interesting reading on the ACCC site sometimes.
