Have just noticed that VA no longer seem to fly direct CBR-ADL (or vice versa) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

After seeing capacity increases announced regularly across the board, and having seen good loading on this route (QF are flying twice daily atm), I'm a little surprised. I wonder if this is just a temporary blip. Has anyone seen any more formal announcements?
There's so little competition already on that route. :(

Yep. Though VA didn't fly Saturdays even pre-Covid. QF trialled it on and off, and currently do have two direct flights even on Saturdays.
It just seems odd that QF are finding enough demand to justify more flights in that city pair than there has been in years, and VA are cutting.

While QF may be operating more flights than they ever have on the route, they are using the E190s instead of 737s. If I remember correctly pre-covid they had 2 737s on weekdays? That’s more seat capacity than the 3 E190 flights they currently offer.

QF are also able to charge a premium where VA2 is targeting a lower tranche of the market, has to discount more = less profitable.

CBR market is heavily influenced by government travel. Most of whom try and find a way to fly QF wherever they can. With one flight a day, presumably it wasn’t hard to work around the BFOD rules…..
