Virgin Food [Flexi Fare]

This could be it - I meekly sat and asked for apple juice like everyone else.
I figured it was just another change I hadn't been aware of.
Should have pushed it - but to be honest, I wasn't gagging for a wine anyway, so no big deal.

Still - would be nice to have some consistency, and some notice of any change.

as I see/interpret it..is that VA went in with all guns blazing looking to topple QF from the top...then over time...VA realized they cant 'afford' a 'better' offering...QF has noticed this and accordingly 'adjusts' its offerings to the VA level (ie..lower than we have been accustomed to in the past).... because if both airlines offer a more 'similar' lower cost offering...its a win for both airlines... essentially we still have a DOMESTIC 'duopoly'..and OZ pax don't have a 3rd/4th/5th.....option...we in OZ have had it too good for too long..and it's unsustainable....now we are paying the price!!!..and all this is the result of the combination our land mass/location on the map and our relatively small population

that's my observation

So it was a wine you asked for??

Flew the 17:25 CBR-BNE today. Wine and beer was apparently to be paid for. Cabin supervisor confirmed this, until I showed them the menu where it explains that free booze is served 5-7. Poor people next to me in 3BC were charged before I spoke up. She offered another drink.... pathetic.

So the menu in the plane says its free but the cabin crew are charging people

Virgin Australia seems a most professional company.... not

Wonder why the once very good VA rep is all of a sudden silent

On the other hand, maybe just passing on this feedback (although a bit trite without pinpointing all of the exact times which these happened).

Acknowledgement in a post stating that this is being done will likely not attract a favourable reply.

Yes of course - I know the difference between beer/wines and spirits on this service.
I fly domestically 40 times a year, the exact same route and anytime I've wanted a wine or beer in the previous 12 months on VA, it's not been a problem. Something has now changed apparently.

Seems the FA's are not following what's being changed though in all cases?

Thanks for the clarification. I don't think anyone suggested you didn't know the difference between wine and spirits, you just didn't say what you ordered....simply alcohol, which describes both. I asked for clarification so we could establish that this was a change/failure with VA or whether it was just a misunderstood offering. No offence was intended.

Re: Virgin Food - Flexi fare

Did some flexi travelling earlier in the year and the food was actually very good! Did a couple last week though... Not as great. Had that weird healthy nut/museli/fruit bar thing on both which is all well and good but damn it is so dry I'll need 2 drinks off the cart! Can you get beer at 8am? :p Had a bircher museli and some condensed fruit jubes on one early morning flight with the bar, and the other.... I can't remember what else I had, only remember the bar. After work drinks pre-flight may of had somthing to do with that. Was a late evening flight at any rate.

I just flew Flexi on Saturday and I got the same snack as everyone else....

Much fairer and simpler to treat everyone the same.

I am not sure why business class is treated differently. Virgin can save a lot of money treating them the same as everyone else....

  Now there's a concept. Let's see, they could do a big game change program....rename the airline (Virgin Blue springs to mind), change the code to perhaps umm, DJ rather than VA and oh, let's drop the prices to entice a bigger market share.

Not sure why you are surprised! Virgin has never been that professional.

A few MEL-SYD-MEL flights this week, J 100% full on both a 737 and 767, a friend flew Virgin around the same time and J was only 1 and 2 passengers...

I am really sorry but not a lot has changed in the transition from DJ to VA. And what did change is being rolled back.

I am glad I can see through these glasses....

Re: Virgin Food - Flexi fare

So on this overpriced fare what does VA give you on a SYD-MEL dinner flight ?

Qantas this week offered a nice moroccan lamb dish with cous cous, beans and carrot. A dinner roll with butter, and a tiny tim tam biscuit. 2 glasses of wine, without needing to beg/ask. My glass was empty and I was given another bottle and extra water when requested as well. This was on a 100% full in J/Y flight on a 767.

All for the lowest economy price of $95....

Got a cheese and biscuit pack on a MCY-SYD flexi fare yesterday and then the same cheese and biscuits on a Saver fare SYD-MEL last night. That was the most expensive cheese and biscuits on the flexi fare even when taking the additonal status credits into account.

I had a cheese and crackers flexi meal handed to me as breakfast the other morning... and politely declined. Not sure if they were aiming for a 'continental' style breakfast option, but its not my cuppa tea, salty crackers and cheese don't go well with coffee in my book.

Hmm... wondering what I'll be offered for breakfast on my Monday morning CNS-SYD flight then... last couple months have been a muffin and banana. Provides even more incentive to get to the Lounge for a bite to eat before the 3 hour flight!
