Virgin Food [Flexi Fare]

I don't like the flexi meals either, though I have never been given any choice in meal on QF either.

Really? You've never been offered a QF "sweet or savoury" snack? Used to get up my nose. "Sweet or savoury?" with no other hint.

As far as my experience can tell, I've hardly ever had a choice when it comes to Y refreshments on QF.

A few times in my experiences, I think I may have had a choice of say cookies or crackers (and dip), but that's about it. Oh, and of course, there's always apples available.

I've certainly had the sweet or savoury question.....

I think I was making a comment about qantas' view that every flight has a meal - so snack = meal. There certainly is a choice in that "meal" - cookies or crackers being another variation.

Just throwing it out there, if the food is your soul reason for buying a flexi fare, you're doing it wrong. ;)

I dont think its the food issue....although my flight home pre easter break had the revolting gourmet salad again, the two girls next to me picked at it and didnt eat, across the isle the woman with a child asked if there was an alternative for her young son and got an egg sandwich.
My point is if you have a marketing plan around trying to differentiate your food with a NAME chef and call it gourmet
Make it gourmet!!

IMO the Flexi breakfasts are getting worse. On Monday's MEL-BNE I received a tub of Carman's muesli (containing three spoonfuls of muesli) and a very small, crunchy, near frozen banana. Juice wasn't an option as they'd "run out".

Get it together VA. If you're going to offer a meal make it something more than a token gesture.

Yep agreed atrocious - worst of them all I think is the cold beef wrap disgusting

3 spoonful airline cereals appear to be the norm now days - I do like a non-frozen bakery item too though!

My default answer to being offered food lately on VA lately has been "I ate in the lounge."

Based on what I've seen this last 12 months, I'd rather eat in the lounge or at either end.

Based on the kind of food available in the lounge, that says a lot about what's available on board...

Which is sad. I went to Salt Grill in Surfers Hilton recently... I was blown away by how good something under the Luke Mangan brand could be. He's got skills, it's just a shame Virgin can't get it together in the lounge or in the air.

Bump...

Got my first Flexi fare on a breakfast-timed flight from CNS-SYD on VA next week and was wondering what the Flexi meals are for breakfast these days, if anyone knows? Any change from just a Carman's muesli, as someone mention up-thread?

Thanks

In case anyone wants to know: the Flexi meal for breakfast included a banana, muffin and drink.

Looks like Flexi food is gone between Mel-Syd anyway, same snacks for savers and flexi fare now.

I have found the same. I fly SYD-CNS monthly and always get the flexi fare. Used to get food and a beer for years. However, now that is gone, you get a cracker and have to pay for the beer. Just flew SYD-GOO last weekend and it was the same. I called VA and they told me, after spending 10 minutes talking to supervisor, that you only get drinks between 5-7pm, and my flight was 7:05 pm!

But the VA rep told me that they have now started to give snacks to saver fares, which she told me was an improvement? But I told her that fly flexi and I have just gotten downgraded, from food and drink to snack, and I pay 2 x price for that. To which she had no comment at all.

I think business travelers that pay extra should get something a little better. VA started off well with this some years ago, but it now looks like they don't want business travelers that pay 2 x price, but rather more 1/2 paying customers, who get rewarded with extras.

VA please pick up your game!
