Virgin forcing me to change my itinerary due to SYD-OOL (via MEL) for SC run

Very interesting contrast...

During the now dead QF NAN run, I had NAN-SYD-MEL-BNE booked. NAN-SYD was delayed by about 8 hours so I had to move onto the direct NAN-BNE flight. Not wanting to fight for original routing credit, I explained that I needed to drop something off in MEL. Within a few minutes, QF happily rebooked me NAN-BNE-MEL-BNE without even asking a followup question.

It does seem that the wheels are starting to fall off at VA

In the university sector we have to do these lounge meet-ups quite often en route to somewhere else, I assume it is the same in other sectors. The business meeting plan sounds like a winner.

I would have thought that the contract between you and Virgin had already been completed, and if they have retrospectively found something they're not happy with, they're the ones that have to suck it up.

I don't have time to check but do all the original flights booked really still exist as will they get cancelled on the day........

The velocity manager called me a few mins ago.

He confirmed the flights WITH stopover in MEL as originally planned. He apologised for the confusion and that's it, all good to go.

Bring on Gold status :D

Well it's good to hear that good outcome for you. To me it seems like an automated error within the system, once they discovered that SYD-MEL-OOL was available online and closed it down they probably went about changing all the bookings made by people with that connection as a matter of convenience. It just seems like another teething issue with the system.

Could be automated, could be malicious, we'll probably never know, but good on you for sticking to your guns and not taking no. All to often it's the airline that gets a free pass, not the customer.

There have been a few schedule changes for MEL/SYD flights - I had one this weekend cancelled - was moved to one 30 minute earlier.

I rang up and complained that my return flights on the 28th had gone from OOL-MEL-SYD to OOL-SYD, they said had a schedule change. I had checked and the flights were still avalible to book and I said that. Then I was told the flights were cancelled and then reinstated a few days ago. Anyway I said I wanted the old flights and after about 20 minutes on hold I had the flights return to the original flights I had booked. I did just notice that the only difference is the booking class has gone from Z on both legs to J and C.

Anyway thanks to the nice lady at Virgin for fixing it for me.:)

It does seem that the wheels are starting to fall off at VA

From the Systems and IT point of view, VA have certainly not been going that well since the move the Sabre.

But most people who have to call up the call-center to sort out issues like flights being changed, flights being booked incorrectly and the like seem to being reporting success stories - and yes I know all the errors shouldn't be happening but they are at least fixing them for people who ask.

Whilst no directly an issue from the new system - I was able to have an Amex free flight upgraded to a flexi so I could apply a Plat business upgrade to it - not bad in my view and they waived the change fee as well. :)

I asked for a fly ahead in the lounge last night. We were booked in a saver fare and I knew there were none of these available. After a full 10 mins of grappling with Sabre we were issued new BPs which I noticed were in a flexi fare class. Sure enough, we received flexi catering onboard - just waiting to see if flexi SCs will post now! I too have had change fees & even fare difference waived this week - I think it's happening to everyone.

The best I have had is the waiving of a phone booking charge for cancelling a pre 13 Jan booking that could therefore only be cancelled by phone. The cancellation fee still definitely applied. I did say thankyou, but I hope the guy on the phone wasn't expecting me to act like I had won the lottery.

Good to see that it has all worked out.

It is not up to the airline to decide which sectors we fly and if they originally made a mistake with the routing or number of points required then tough luck.

Just as an update...

I received an email AGAIN saying that my flight SYD-MEL-OOL was changed to a non-stop.

Will have to call the velocity manager tomorrow to find out what's going on.

LOL, latest figures show Qantas as the cancellation leader.

LOL all you want... But as I have said before, these figures do not take in to account "schedule changes" but rather only flights cancelled on the day....

This thread is a prime example of a "virgin flight cancellation"

So what figures are you basing your comment on?

So, if you were a passenger, you would be much happier to know that your flight was cancelled on the day of travel than before?
