Virgin gets Tiger Approval

I have no doubt that Tiger will improve - most importantly by getting some more planes to cover delays. Maybe even *shock horror* moving pax to VA flights rather than leaving them stranded with a $20 meal voucher!

The more important issue is rising fares - either VA will be smart and use TT to drive fares down against QF or simply bring fares up to VA-20% levels and settle into a cosy duopoly.

Thats a very misguided post, given Tiger have been the leading on time performer for at least 12 months and an airline with few cancellations by comparison.

Considering Jetstar pax stranded don't get moved to Qantas very often, I doubt Virgin will be doing that. However, back to the duopoly, how long will it be before Lion Air make their debut? They can land on Surfers Paradise beach!

Actually on the contrary, TT have been moving pax across to VA if there have been significant delays or canx. This has been happening for at least a month.

Re: Tiger / VA joint venture

We’re delighted to announce that the ACCC has given us the green light for the joint venture between Tiger Australia and Virgin Australia. This is great news for Tiger and most importantly great news for consumers…
i can't see how this is great for the consumer. We have already seen the hefty price rises with VA. now it is even easier to continue this trend.

The alternative wasn't that great either.

Re: Tiger / VA joint venture

Perhaps there is a cunning plan at play here. Invest in Tiger, then reschedule Tiger flights to be within 1 hour of JQ flights. Then advertise $10 fares on those routes and ensure people are aware of JQ's price match guarantee. JQ may be flying with very high load factors, but very poor revenue.

Mr Sharp has been told to absolutely destroy JQ at all cost... This war is only in its infancy.

To do that he's going to need a lot more than 10 aircraft.....

Tiger is not in a position to destroy anyone at the moment

Doubt it.

Virgin don't have the cash anyway.

They are clearly not interested in having a price war with the QF group, Tiger is the vehicle to use so they don't have to discount Virgin so much against Jetstar.

Will be very useful on some routes like Tassie where Virgin is being slaughtered. My money is on a swift return of Tiger to LST for example.

Sharp’s mission, which he has accepted, is to lead Tiger out of the jungle and devour as much of Jetstar’s low fare franchise in Australia as it can digest without going broke.

doesn't really say this:

Mr Sharp has been told to absolutely destroy JQ at all cost... This war is only in its infancy.

Re: Tiger / VA joint venture

Just a heads up, keep on an eye on TT for some announcements soon!

Re: Tiger / VA joint venture

as I don't fly them even when they sell tickets for $1 I seriously doubt any announcement from tiger will excite me.

:D
