I also noticed that the free wine served on evening fights is from a BOTTLE and poured into a cup (although plastic). It has always bothered and disgusted me that QF in the Y cabin hand out the baby bottles of wine - so much wastage! Yet ask me to offset the carbon footprint of the flight.

It's cough like this that makes me mad when we talk about the enviro impact of flying. Sure, there is the issue of the place guzzling 250k litres of fuel each time it flies to the US - and that is something we have to think about - but we haven't quite invented a replacement technology yet..... but... the 1000s of tons of plastic garbage created by the on board catering?? That could be fixed in a instant. Just like the Nanny State has banned plastic bags, they could also decree that "individual serve bottles of wines are also now banned". I recall in the olden days, the FAs were some how able to pour wine from glass bottles into glass wine glasses even in Y...... why can't we do that again??

What's the size of the glass?
QFs bottles are quite generous being typically 1/4 of a normal wine bottle

I meant from a recycling point of view. They could use glasses, wash them, and then re-use them like they used to.

Glass bottles can be recycled.
But generally are not. It's cheaper to buy new glass from China. That's why there are warehouses full of glass in Melbourne's north-west.

We need to re-introduce tariffs. It was madness to get rid of them.

Washing is labour intensive, that is why they (airlines) don't do it.
That is probably why the airlines overtly separate waste and recycling, but in the end, we don't see what they do with their "recycling".
Every time I fly VA, they come through, asking any rubbish, any rubbish, when the annoucement comes on to "prepare the cabin for landing".
OT, talking about flying, flew SQ and (Air)NZ, over this past weekend, in J for SQ, and in premY on NZ, their napkins, (the things you wipe your mouth with after eating), is a type of papery sort of thing now, not the true fabric of the AN days of old (Ansett), when flying J.
Flying VAd shorthaul in Y, when asking for water, its also now in that small petite 250mm container.
No glass for us plebs in Y.
Pretzels, now, is that filling for the stomach ADL - BNE or vv?
