Great, thanks for that. I wondered about the other VX lounges in the states. I thought it was a bit odd they only mentioned LAX on their website.

It's the only VX operated lounge - the other lounges are contracted from VS (hence the lack of access). I believe you can pay to enter..?

The first section had something the business section did not have:

Ooh. Champagne Bertrand Senecourt is produced for the US market (apparently), so not one I've tried. Can't find any reputable reviews, but quite a few people seem to like it - must give it a go when I go through LAX next :)

Had some last night. One word: delicious.

A balmy night out on the Terrace tonight. This is my first time here and I really like it.ImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1412738311.058081.jpgImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1412738336.252596.jpg

My parents were flying J on VA LAX/SYD recently & said it was a very nice lounge with Mum enjoying a glass or two of Mumm champagne before the flight.

They had a separate booking SEA/LAX on AS but they were happy to through check the bags SEA/LAX/SYD as they have a interline baggage agreement with VA & the connecting flight was within 12 hours. AS didn't charge for the bags as they recognise the international VA allowance.

Alaskan arrive at terminal 6 so they took the LAX shuttle around to T3 to get their boarding passes before walking next door to the Star Alliance lounge at TBIT where the VA flights also depart from.

obb you are spot on the money there - and +1 for the Mumm sparkling - is is produced in Napa Valley but is definitely more than drinkable if real Champs not available. Food however IMHO meagre offerings. Showers excellent - I really like the concept of a dedicated barman - lounge staff however need a kick in the klakker as there were used cluttered tables everywhere for prolonged periods - seems staff only swept lounge hourly or so - but overall excellent lounge to while away that hour or so whilst SWMSBT does her stuff.

That is very nice to hear. Myself and my mother have separate booking with delta JFK/LAX before our flight to Sydney. You would hope they will do the same but virgin OP told me they can't. We shall see I guess.

VA may not through check bags to other airlines on separate pnrs eg SYD VA DL xx_ however in reverse most US carriers are generally quite happy to do so.

I would think what VA have told you is correct so you'd need to collect your bags in LAX on arrival at TBIT, then after customs take them around to DL at T5 & checkin again.

On the way over with VA my parents had an overnight at LAX then checked in with AS to SEA the next day so had to pay the baggage fee.

Note that there are several counters at TBIT for baggage drop and it may indeed be possible to recheck them there before heading around to T5, even if there are not through-tagged.

EDIT - I note on FT today a statement that UA don't operate a TBIT counter ...

DL are perfectly happy to through check bags to VA, even on separate PNRs - done it a couple times now. :)
