First off I'm a miner and fly weekly from Brisbane to Mackay. I have been a loyal supporter of Virgin over the last 2 years and often pay more for my Virgin flights but the benefits were worth it.

i usually book minimum 2 months in advance to keep the prices down e.g. Less then $100.

About 6 weeks ago as I was making my bookings I hit Thurs 13 June Mackay to Brisbane and it said all economy was sold out, so thinking there was a glitch I moved onto the 27th June same thing. I decided I had made enough bookings for the day and would continue in a few weeks when the glitch had been fixed.

The time came around to make the bookings and the cheapest fare on any Thursday Mackay to Brisbane is a Flexi fare at an average price of $279???? This goes on until August, eventually I stopped searching.

Now some of you are probably saying your a miner and you can afford it, but a return trip would be a third of my weekly pay. I'm about to become VA Platinum but I have to say that if thats the prices that Virgin expect me to pay, they've just lost a loyal customer. I will happily fly Jetstar / Qantas for $59 and give them my loyalty from now on.

Its got me totally baffled as to why they would do this. I have about 20 people on my crew who all pay for their own flights and they are frequent flyers all on different levels, all have refused to pay those prices. The most I've ever paid in $159 in the two years I have been doing this route.

Goodbye Virgin.

Website glitch ?
Trying to increase profits on the route

Who knows, just book with whoever is cheaper

I'm guessing you've racked up quite a few velocity points over the last 2 years, maybe it's time to cash those in until the situation clarifies? You'll get SCs on the flights you make bfore June 30th too so you can still work towards Platinum.

Might be a glitch, but Virgin have matched the QF regional sale, so there are $49 fares to be had in the October time frame!

Ah.....supply and demand are back on the job I see..

Possible... but it looks like they're fiddling with inventory. I can understand the cheap seats out of town on a Friday being sold out well in advance but to have all the Saver fare buckets cleared out in one direction on one day of the week is a little odd.

Its a glitch when Webjet show cheap fares and VA dont, hence my screen shot!

The cheap fares are presumably in the section of the screenshot that got cropped? I can see a $146 figure in the table header but I had assumed if it was actually available on any of the flights you would have included it.

Webjet only show fares that are available, they were later in the day.

Might be a webjet glitch

(Flightstats suggests the plane is on the fullish side)

Virgin dont show the flights via SYD which are cheap, the AFF specials ;), thats the glitch, coupled with high loads.

Exactly what I've been doing but I'm down to my last 7000 points :( should scrape a few more together in the next fortnight.

I'm booked SIA BNE to BKK on Thursday night for 5 days so will hit Platinum on the way over.

You won't earn status credits on SQ flights, you will only earn on VA code and metal in the sense of reward bookings.

If you have booked a revenue fare on SQ you will by all means earn SCs, if it falls within the earn categories.

I read an article recently that said if you are repeatedly visiting airline and car rental sites you should delete cookies before each visit. Apparently they monitor what flights/car rentals you get quotes for with cookies and push prices up for return visits. Not sure how true this is.

Yes I have a revenue "W" class fare booked, so should get 90SC each way. And enough points to grab a another business class rewards flight before the end of June.

I recently booked a family holiday to Fiji. I like to fly VA as it has the best flight times for direct flights MEL-NAN and return. Anway, going over paid 584 per person for a VA flexi - that's fare enough. Coming back they wanted $800 per person. So I ended up booking us back on Air Pacific (QF codeshare) in J as this was a similar pricing to VA's Y! The only disadvantage is that plane lands in melbourne 11pm instead of 9pm. But - it is a new A330 aircraft - J catering with children's and vegan etc meal requests actually honoured. I can't seem to get a special meal request honoured on VA J Domestic or Y for the pacific route.

One other interesting thing that VA has done on the Pacific flights - in the last 30 days they reduced the base fare to 75% for 2-11 year olds - previously they charged adult rates for 2+ but they did jack up all fares (I think to give them same average income per aircraft!).

A bit of a grumble on my part so sorry for that!
