If you wanna go upmarket, and bring in some LM influence, tell customers that it's a deconstructed, Australian twist on a Croque Monsieur ;) :p

Oh....is that what they are doing with breakfast in Lukes Salt Grill (HSP)..................deconstructed eggs benedict! And here we were thinking they just didn't know how to make them :shock: ;). He must have pinched the concept from the Fix bar and their deconstructed mojitos!

Unfortunately none of them were suitable for vegetarians though.

I'm not entirely sure chilli con carne combo is suitable for anyone about to climb aboard a sealed tin can with a lot of others who ate the same thing. Surely excessive methane aboard a plane is not such a good idea (sort of reminds me of the baked bean scene out of Blazing Saddles)............mind you, I'm looking forward to trying the chilli con carne :mrgreen:

Bit confused as to why the farts would smell worse in economy. Do Business class passenger farts have a better aroma?

BNE was rubbish last night. 720pm - One then two soups and toasted sandwiches. Starting to wonder what QF have.
 
Probably cost cutting related to the poor result expectations.
 
TBH I can't remember a day trip for work we're I've been able to spare time for any type of dinner (or food for that matter!) - Plus, I don't usually fly out until after 7:00 p.m - so for me, it would be great knowing there is going to be a dinner type offering available...

The weekends are typically not as well catered for as the weekdays. QF is similar in this regard (bar possibly the J Lounge).
 
I think some forget this is a "lounge" not a a la cart restaurant.

Mmm, whilst this is certainly true ... both that we often forget and that indeed these places are just lounges, there is considerable scope for providing services to frequent customers which should not be breaking the budget yet still give your most important customers yet another reason to enjoy using your services. There are many lounges to be found internationally which provide very good services for business class or elite guests, including a good variety of hot foods as well as cold and deserts, drinks, etc - these types of superior lounges make choice of airline really easy for a FF.

On the other hand, I guess its so often simply good enough to match a competitor in a particular marketplace ... I mean, where is one going to go when travelling domestically? QF? The food/lounge offering is certainly no better. Leap across the pond to pretty much any part of Asia and beyond and the competition is fierce, meaning that customer service and the _real_ desire to retain high value customers is more than a meaningless line on a strategy sheet.

Perhaps I just haven't travelled as widely as you but I struggle to think of many countries with a better domestic Lounge offering than Australia - be it VA or QF.
 
Oh I forgot about the VA budget. It looks so good.

Negative one million+ today I hear? So who is paying for these luscious lounges AKA A La Cart Restaurants, who should cater for every single passengers needs and provide a service generally every person with a bit of status has access too. Maybe They should triple or quadriple the amount of status credits to requalify for gold and plat? Start charging for a premium lounge So they could afford to provide the service every one says they should have. Sorry I forgot thats the expense of the shareholders.

Emphasis is intended, and I agree with 777.

Asia is an odd beast because the bulk of travel is more regional than domestic. Regional travel is international so you get to use international level lounges, which can - at hub ports - also serve long haul traffic, so these are amongst the best offered by the airline.

The few lounges in the system which are domestic only lounges in Asia are about on par with Australia domestic if not under that and barely over the American standard. At least, I can't think of many domestic only lounges in Asia anyway - I do know the MH KUL domestic lounge (A gates, main contact pier), and I hear it's clean but otherwise fairly rudimentary. TG domestic travel lounges are similar. And once you move away from hubs, the lounges can get quite basic. (One odd advantage of Australia having a few too many hubs - there's a standard to be had).

New Zealand is the only other notable country I can think of where the domestic-only lounges are of quite a comparable standard to ours.

I guess the problem is in somewhat the pudding in that we enjoy a certain standard in Australia (somewhat set by QF in a way, which has had more time in the game), so the travellers of Australia - and by extension, us, because we tend to exacerbate or exceed those expectations of the standard traveller by a magnitude - have a higher expectation than what our international colleagues may think is reasonable.
 
Ok, diverting the specific intention of this thread for a moment. _Why_ are international lounges, generally speaking, so much better than domestic ones? Whats the business case that causes an airline, any airline, to put more love and money into their international offering, lounge wise? Why are we quite happy to accept this apparent status quo?
