Well this is highly displeasing, received this in an email from Virgin Mobile:
As someone who has taken advantage of our Virgin Australia 10% credit back offer in the past, we wanted you to be the first to know that, unfortunately it's coming to an end shortly. We will be taking final bookings for this offer on 6 January 2013. Of course you are most welcome to take advantage of the offer anytime between now and when it wraps up.

Rest assured that we're also talking to all our other Virgin family members about more exclusive customer benefits for you in 2013.

Regards,

The Virgin Mobile Team

Re: Fly Virgin Australia and get 10% of ticket value on Virgin Mobile Credit

Well, I have yet to receive credit for any flight, but I have not as yet chased this up.

I currently have some flights from October awaiting credit as well as some bookings up though to May next year.

Who do I call to get the taken flight posted? Velocity or Virgin Mobile.

Re: Fly Virgin Australia and get 10% of ticket value on Virgin Mobile Credit

Most of mine have worked fine without any intervention so I haven't had the need to contact them. Two haven't though (one where I wasn't traveling - not sure whether they'll pay that one), so I guess I better hassle them before they close the whole thing. I'll probably try emailing Virgin Mobile first.

How do you do that?
The "contact us" page on their site links to a form that lets you ask a question and choose a category for that question. No category is glaringly obvious as the 'best' one (maybe Service Functions & Features -> Promotions & Special Offers, or Billing -> General Information) but I'm not sure it matters. After the initial form all contact is via email to/from [email protected], so maybe you can just email them directly.

Cheers! I'll give it a go ...

Virgin Mobile Credit to be discountinued

An email came in from Virgin Mobile explaining the 10% credit to the phone bill for fligts taken, ex gst and airport charges, will cease from Jan 6 2013.

Very not happy Jan on this one, after switching to Virgin Mobile only a few months ago to be rewarded for being a brand loyal customer.

Plat with Virgin, Virgin Money c.card, Virgin Mobile... Unfortunately all I can do is stamp my feet in disgust. If it is being removed for lack of use, I can admit, of the last 8 fligts I have booked on Virgin since switching to their mobile service, only 3 were booked through the virgin mobile website, mostly because I forgot to go through and log in on the virginmobile webiste.

Anyway, just my two cents...please relocate this to an existing thread on the same topic if one exists.

Not a happy change.

This was one of the reasons I have switched a lot of flying over to Virgin.

Oh well, one less reason to choose Virgin.

I too am very disappointed by this. Probably sufficiently disappointed to leave Virgin Mobile when my contract ends. I've quite liked not needing to pay phone bills...

..... I've quite liked not needing to pay phone bills...

Probably why they ended it.

I think it was a great offer. No idea how either company thought it was a good idea.

I don't fly Virgin much but I did appreciate the discount when I do... I am no longer on contract and Virgin mobile uses the Optus network. Hmmm, perhaps it is time to do a bit of a price comparison and maybe a switcheroo is in order.

Looking on the bright side this does now leave the door open for a new telco arrangement, perhaps something not dissimilar to the QF Optus deal. Who knows?

Virgin Mobile also discontinued their $49 unlimited topless pre paid plan so decided to switch back to Amaysim who only charge $39.95 for the same plan and give you 4gb download instead of 1gb.

I have not received an email - is this for bookings made until Jan 6th for, say, later in the year or must bookings and travel be completed by the 6th?

It doesn't state it definitively, but I'm inclined to think that "We will be taking final bookings for this offer on 6 January 2013" implies it refers to the booking date rather than the flight date.

I was always concerned when the Virgin Mobile site said "We normally give you 5% bonus mobile credit, but you’ll get a massive 10% of the cost of the ticket", expecting it to drop to 5% at any moment, but instead they (or presumably VA) went one step further and canned the whole thing. No mention yet of it ending on the site as far as I can tell.

I would say the finish date has more to do with the Sabre cutover than anything else .... might come back at a later date once things sorted
