This is more about Virgin Mobile, but will be of interest to Virgin flyers too (http://virginmobile.com.au/irresistible) :

With the Irresistible Plan you receive a return international flight with Virgin Australia[SUP]1[/SUP], a new phone after 12 months when you re-sign for another 24 months[SUP]2[/SUP] on the Irresistible Plan or equivalent, and a huge 6GB included data.

Up, Up and Away

Get the only mobile plan in Australia that comes with a return international flight. It pays to have friends in high places.

  • Fly with Virgin Australia[SUP]1[/SUP] to New Zealand, Fiji or Vanuatu
  • Depart from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth or Canberra
  • Call 1300 731 901 from the 4th-9th month of your 24 months plan each year to book your flight

he Irresistible Plan

$140 Plan Min. total cost over 24 months $3360[SUP]3[/SUP]

You might need to adjust the 24 month minimum cost, it doesn't computer. But if it's correct a flight to nz or pacific islands for $33000 is the very least they should provide. :o

Que? $140x24 = $3360

On the iPhone app the very last line of the quoted text says total cost over 24 months "$33603"
Same on Android - the last superscript [SUP]3[/SUP] is not being displayed correctly.

As for the offer, I looked at that and thought - meh, you can get unlimited calls and text for $90 per month. The $200 international credit is one that few would use.

The last time I had a phone plan with Virgin Mobile I ended up sending my own invoice directly to Richard Branson for "time wasted dealing with your incompetent staff". Sir Dick declined to pay it, it seems. Still, VM are probably marginally better than the telco Three, who lowered the customer-service bar further down than the Mariana Trench. These companies are the LCC's of the phone world, and stupidly I've been one of their repeat customers. I'll add Dingo to that list, I'd sign up with anyone who'll let me send a text message for 3 cents. I might brag about never holding a phone courtesy of One Tel ...except for the fact I held 2,500 shares when they tanked

Exactly - who pays $140 a month for a mobile?! You can get a new iphone 5 with several carriers with unlimited calls and text for under $100 a month - if I was spending an extra $40 a month to get international credit I would just buy calling cards.

Virgin, 3 and Vodafone and 3 carriers people generally steer clear of when possible anyway.

Much like the Virgin lifetime lounge membership, I file this one away under 'not worth it'.

I changed over from Telstra to Amaysim and now get a BYO phone plan for $39.90/month unlimited and have been very happy with it. Some exclusions for the unlimited (OS, Premium etc) but that doesn't bother me. There is not a hope in hell I'd sign a 24 month x $140/month plan.

LOL, you do realise its Optus you had issues with as the owner and Mr Branson makes money off the branding only.

I used to be with virgin, now I'm with good ol aldi, 35 bucks a month for unlimited. Only problem is No access to telstra 4g network.

For the moment at least...

I'm following with a little interest a dispute between Telstra & the wholesaler who provides access to the Telstra network for companies like Kogan & Aldi. If Telstra win, it could be bye bye to those companies.

It was resolved AFAIK. Kogan had the win and Aldi was not involved (apart from using the same wholesaler). I'm also thinking of changing to Kogan, but just waiting to see how they go when the dust settles. $29/month unlimited sounds good to me!

I haven't heard over the last few days that the matter is resolved.

Here's my original source:

When my Voda contract expires in February, I am looking to go to either Kogan or Boost.

EXCLUSIVE: ISPOne re-structures to stay alive: is this the end for low cost mobile phone plans?

Ah yes, my apologies indeed. That's a new issue. It seems Kogans win against them in court has meant financial strife for them. It would appear they are perhaps on-selling cheaper than they are buying.....not so wise.....or as the blurb suggests, Telstra is now trying it on because they've undercut themselves. That article suggests ISPone may do a phoenix rebirth leaving Kogan and Aldi subscribers in the lurch. I was very close to jumping to Kogan to try them out, but now I might just hang a while with Amaysim who use the Optus network.

Amaysim is pretty compelling. I resent paying Telstra well over $100 for unlimited (still no OS or Premium). However, this is for a fleet. If Amaysim had direct account managers and support and tools for managing a fleet.....

Not sure when you last checked out their pricing but might be worth having another look. It increased a few weeks ago and that $29/mth is now $39. Unless you're looking at a longer term deal they're pretty much in Boost territory now.

BTW swanning_it, first time I've been on the desktop version in a while and can see your icon clearly. Up til now, courtesy of the iPhone app, I honestly thought it was a stoned wombat with the balloon being the nose and the 'H' an eye haha. I'll never look at my HH card the same way again!

My fleet is me, me and me..........a certain GFC brought my company from a staff of 18 down to me, myself and my ego!

Yes, events happen quickly in the telco world........another thing I have AFF and AFFers to be thankful for!

A stoned wombat sounds far more apt for my avatar TBH !

Now you've got me on the prowl for such a pic..............you've absolutely made my day with that comment, I love it!

BTW, I'm currently at HSP and being a stoned wombat would make a lot of sense about now.......
