I agree about the customer service is hit and miss and miss.

They do employ the Optus network. When first connected the 3g/hspa was woeful; but recently received update and much much better.

Points post regularly every month. The rebate tends to post randomly or in bursts and usually a couple of months after the purchase. I have had several months of zero phone bills (or even credits) as a result of my flying activities - although i do tend to forget to book through the virgin mobile site a lot of the time.

As for network, yep it's Optus. I find it's passable where i live but i have telstra on my Ipad and the network is noticably better in more places.

Virgin Mobile

If you aren't aware Virgin Mobile customers get 10% of their Virgin flights (excluding taxes) credited back to their mobile phone account once the flight has been flown. You need to book using a link from the virgin mobile website. Just received a $5 credit. Not much but no effort required.

It is discussed here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ity/virgin-mobile-velocity-4-000-a-38624.html

I have several of these bookings coming up - how long after the flight did the credit appear?

...

Anyway I took the plunge and ported two services across to Virgin Mobile 10 weeks ago. From the above T&C's I was prepared to wait at least 60 days.

The first points have just appeared in my account - one lot for each service - but based on the second months invoicing, not that of the first month. Of course, neither have either of the two lots of 4K.

Looks like a call is in order.
It took several calls and five months but the 4K points finally posted to my velocity account.

Re: Virgin Mobile

I have been with Virgin Mobile ~12 months. I actually find them very slow with the credit and most times it has taken the full 2 months and at times I have had to send email.

I believe I have not been credited what I am owed this year and need to follow up.

Once again, the third flight booked today, and I keep forgetting to book from the virginmobile site... Does this really matter? Do they check. The other part is to use your virgin phone number as the contact. This is not my normal, number, so I am concerned that if tere is an isssue that I wont be contacted due to the wrong number being used in the booking.

I am however getting the points each month for the phone bill. If I charge this to my virgin credit card, would I get better value than charging to my westpac amex plat card?

A lot of questions here...it is saturday night, and the wine intake is reaching max :-)

Re: Virgin Mobile/Velocity: 4,000 bp's, 3per$ and 10% fare rebate - posting experince

Earlier this year I entered my second 24 month contract with Virgin on the back of this sweetener. Personally I've never had any issues with Optus coverage but my points posting experiences haven't all been great. This time around, I "upgraded" my service to an iPhone contract. I did this in store to avoid calling the Phillipines and was obviously eligible for the 4000 points and monthly points earn based on the terms and conditions listed on the website. I continued to earn points for my plan after upgrading but had to make several phone calls to both Virgin Mobile and Velocity to secure the 4000 points bonus. Virgin Mobile initially told me I was ineligible for the offer but I perservered. Eventually the woman followed it up with a supervisor and called me back to confirm I was in fact eligible for the offer and the points would post in due course. My advice to anyone would be to be defiant and stand your ground.

I get the impression Virgin stores don't have the capacity to enter your Velocity details when entering/upgrading a plan, so I'd definitely sign up online to avoid any hassles.

I would expect some staff at the Virgin stores either don't know how to enter a velocity number and otherwise activate the offer or don't want to (maybe impacts on commission).

The T&C's certainly indicate a vist to the store is all that is required; of course it needs to be a "Virgin Mobile Store", not that of a "partner" or a "dealer":
Only available when joining Virgin Mobile by calling 1300 300 454, visiting virginmobile.com.au/velocity or Virgin Mobile Stores (excludes partners and dealers) and quoting your Velocity Membership Number.

I recently took out a sim only plan for my tablet. The staff in store must have entered by Velocity number because the points each month have been hitting, no problem. No follow up.

In terms of data service, no problem. I have been very happy with it, and now considering switching my phone over from Vodaphonny due to their poor coverage on both data and voice.

I have not received the 4000 points, but I suspect I did not qualify, but will have a closer look.

Re: Fly Virgin Australia and get 10% of ticket value on Virgin Mobile Credit

*bump*
I have not yet had any credit appear yet.
Anyone with news on how long it takes as common practice?

I continue to make bookings but forget to use the link. I couldn't see any tracking pages appear, or anything pop in the browser that indicated a link or anything else could confirm whether I made the booking or not?

Anyone with recent experiences care to share?

Re: Fly Virgin Australia and get 10% of ticket value on Virgin Mobile Credit

Have to use the link from Virginmobile and have your mobile number as the main contact number in your booking.Didnt take long to credit, within a few weeks I think after the flight. I have changed to an unlimited plan so stopped using it as there was no benefit having extra credit.

Re: Fly Virgin Australia and get 10% of ticket value on Virgin Mobile Credit

Mine usually takes the full 7-8 weeks before it credits.

Which reminds me to follow up as I do not believe I have received the full credit to which I am entitled.

Virgin Mobile are hopeless when you ask them to tell you what has been credited and what hasn't. So they asked for a list of all my flights with the airfare excluding taxes. Hmmm. I have called Velocity 2-3 times and each time I have been promised an email which never eventuates.

Can someone please explain the function of a call centre as I have no idea....

And which call centre do I start with, the phone company or the airline? Still no credit to my account for any of the last 11 fligts booked and completed since signing over. Looks like some phone calls are about to be made.

Re: Fly Virgin Australia and get 10% of ticket value on Virgin Mobile Credit

I've never had my flights credited (going through the correct processes each time) and as much as I don't have issue with Virgin Mobile's product, I gave up on their call center years ago.

Any more on this?

I have a bill due soon and it's getting on for 2 months since the flight.

Who best to call? Virgin Australia or Virgin Mobile?
