Hi
Looking at having to take the redeye from Perth to Brisbane departing 11:30 pm - arriving 6 am the next morning, as I am connecting from Broome. I am VFF Platinum so have access to the lounge and Economy X seating.
My questions - is the Perth lounge definitely open as per their website until boarding of last flight? (I thought I read somewhere it closed early).
If anyone has flown this flight (or one of the other east coast redeye flights), is upgrading to business worthwhile and what is the meal service, etc?
It is a 737-800 plane.
Are the business seats just the same as other domestic flights with 8 at the front?
If the lounge stays open, I probably do not need more food or drinks unless they serve breakfast before landing.
Are the seats significantly more comfortable or reclining to justify burning a lot of points to upgrade?
Thanks for any feedback!

I travelled on the same flight (in Economy) in July and the lounge was open until boarding

Same plane, same seat, same service, same food.
It will be dinner loaded. One service. No breakfast.

2-2 is always more comfortable than 3-3 but that's just my view.

Doesn't Perth - East Coast get an actual dessert vs a chocolate? And snack basket is usually passed around once or twice?

If you can fall asleep in a Y seat (as opposed to a slightly wider recliner), then a J upgrade on a red eye is likely not worth it.

I did it once on VA ages ago (still in VA 1.0 but on a 737); mainly for the, what the hell, more comfy, see if I can sleep (it was more comfy, and I did sleep some, but still felt pretty destroyed once I landed in BNE). In those days, they only served soup just after takeoff (could add bacon to it), then a very light breakfast before landing if wanted (well, it'd still probably cost about $10 at Starbucks).

Eat up in the lounge (or even beforehand at a nicer restaurant outside the airport), then skip the onboard offering. Unless your objective is to try and stay awake and / or just get 1-2 hrs kip.

Yes, sounds like a plan. Is the Perth lounge definitely open late?
Have taken a few red-eyes this year and every time the lounge has been open until they have been called circa 11:30PM. Having been one of those people that complained the lounge was closed for the late flights back in the day, this is not a problem anymore - it appeared to be a COVID response and/or VA 2.0 "finding their feet".
