They must at least fill the aircraft to whatever the breakeven figure is and we are all speculating that we know what number that is.

Remember that empty seats leaves a good capacity for carrying freight instead.

..and I am sure there comes a point where Pax loads are so low, that you may as well do away with carrying them, and just do freight.

I’m certain there’ll be many creditors who’ll lose sleep over VA’s possible demise unless they’re covered for credit insurance

And credit insurance works until.. the size of defaults are so large that the people providing credit insurance can't pay out. We already saw this movie in 2008..

So I'd suggest the creditors will simply lose sleep, to keep things simple.

This gets repeated a lot (I don't know why) but please remember a plane configured to carry pax is NOT a freighter. Yes it can and does carry freight but that's part of the mix of how the flight is profitable. Not in and of itself.

If you cannot carry any pax (or only 10% pax) then you can carry freight - at a different level of loss.

It would have to be very high value freight to make break even when there are no pax.

The whole business model is built around a mix of pax + freight. If VAH could have made more money for shareholders being a freight company they would have done that years ago.

Well they undoubtedly could have made more money being freight only.

And a railway company could make more money (or lose less) by simply replacing train services with buses.

Doesn't mean they should or would. They're in the passenger market, that is their expertise.

VA are back in the skies - new schedules loaded on the website - 64 services per week with government backing/guarantee.

Not many, I know but sure beats 6 rtn flights to SYD each week.
