Some more SYD photos here. Decent progress on the roof in two weeks.

Does anybody know what I can expect Sydney lounge wise for my business class ticket in October?

Don't think anyone will know at this stage

From a Virgin Media Release - Make of it what you will, but I am expecting parts of the lounge to be closed from September-January, but the wording "partial lounge closure" means they should still be open :)

"The Sydney lounge redesign has begun, but the physical remodelling works begin in earnest about September. The renovation is expected to necessitate a partial lounge closure until works are completed, with the lounge due for re-opening in the first quarter of next year"

I expect they will open a finished upstair lounge (which is presumably smaller) and then gradually renovate the downstairs. Presumably escalators to get between the floors?

Does that existing elevator go up there? (I've never used it)

Hilarious comment in the Age:

"it is likely to cost millions of dollars."

in other news water is wet and grass is green...

Almost glad they didnt do this earlier - would have made the decision between DJ and QF a lot harder ;) I hate the DJ terminal in MEL and found teh DJ lounge in SYD crowded (though I loved the kerbside direct entry).

Thanks for the replies. I chose DJ because QF don't fly business to HTI, It looks like that little bit of extra room is getting dearer and dearer as the business perks diminish!

Presumably escalators to get between the floors?

I'm holding out for an escalator for entry, and a fireman's pole through the first floor and into the food court below for exit to the gates.

But I guess that's more 'Clubhouse' than 'Lounge'.

They've been doing a reno on Darwin airport for sometime now... granted Darwin Airport is picking up the bill for the majority of the work, but VA are building a lounge there....

Entry to upstairs is via escalator which is situated to the right of the doors for the lounge entry inside the terminal. The old AN Chairmans club I believe.

I think you mean Golden Wing, which was always two levels and not membership tiered.

Renovations at SYD lounge

Dropped into Virgin's Sydney lounge on Friday, work continuing on renovating for the new upstairs level. Meeting rooms are open again, but the door to the upstairs was locked otherwise I'd have tried to sneak in and take a photo! Girls at the front desk still say pretty much what I've read elsewhere, ie upstairs to be open in a few months and will be bigger than downstairs. Sounds like there will certainly be room for Virgin's special "Invitations+" lounge! They expect that when upstairs is opened, downstairs will close until end of year.

I think the old AN version of the Chairman's lounge is on the main pier level and was in the area of the first "Lounge" before moving to its current location.

Not sure where to post this, but Etihad are building a lounge in MEL. Will be between gates 18 & 20 on the new international pier. Perhaps this could end up being a joint lounge with Virgin?

Very interesting piece of information. There has been talk in the past of a joint lounge.

Interesting that they chose MEL if it is true rather than SYD. Would certainly imply they are thinking about SYD too.
