Virgin Velocity Reward Seats on Etihad foibles

So:

seat selection isn't available, even for a fee, but this seems to be an IT glitch at Eithad, and they are looking into it and will call me back.

However, online check-in also isn't available for my tickets, apparently, so I can't choose seats by checking in either.

And with the flight very full, the prospect of being seated separately from my travelling companion is not a happy one.

And with none of this stuff available, buying a Neighbour Free seat is Pie In The Sky...

And strangely, about five hours before the flight, online check-in became available for me in the Etihad app, and when I went to select seats, we already had suitable seats assigned.

The customer service agent never did call me back, but maybe she fixed the problem...
