Just received an email from Velocity, they are selling 1000 Virgin Voyages Access Keys for 79,999 Velocity points for a 1 or 2 person Sea Terrace or Limited View Sea Terrace cabin on eligible 3 to 6 night cruises from Melbourne or Sydney.

The four night Sydney - Burnie - Sydney cruise we are looking at is $3412 for the cabin.

I was looking at the 6 night MEL - SYD - HBA - MEL at it's priced at $4422 per cabin.

Managed to get one, so hoping I get the booking key early!

The ship was meant to be based in Melbourne this year. Key market is Sydney though so they cancelled some Melbourne itineraries to relocate briefly to Sydney to build awareness.

When it returns next year though they're balancing it around as it's a tough sell from Melbourne alone.

Sydney Harbour does have its charms compared to Port Phillip... although I do detest White Bay Cruise Terminal with exactly zero public transport. Surely TfNSW can run a ferry back to Circular Quay on cruise days?

Had a look at this last night and it was a fair bit of variability between what an access key bought you - you could get a 3-night cruise, plenty of 4-5 night cruises and one 6-night cruise.
Going to pass on it for the moment, but will be interested to see what others think.

They have been giving away many tickets for this company on morning television and radio stations. Perhaps sales are quiet. I was a bit surprised that it was even coming here, thought it would have been focused on the Caribbean or other American markets.

Would be good, wouldn't it.

A private operator did run that service when the terminal opened, but didn't restart that service after covid and it didn't attract great volumes. Unfortunately it was still a relatively lengthy walk from the ferry to the cruise terminal and, on top of all the other timing/connection aspects (i.e. Circular Quay is further away from Town Hall or anywhere west or south) didn't add up on its own. But I'd agree it should be added as an interim stop on the Pyrmont Bay route would make a lot of sense... but our governments haven't been big on public transport.

Personally, I’d rather redeem my 80K VFF points on a partner award business class flight considering these cruise “destinations”.

Points get deducted straight away and are non-refundable.

We're cruise addicts, we don't care about the destination. Remember 80k is for 1 or 2 people to cruise.

Mrs 2905 and I have never been on a cruise. I had 800K+ idle Velocity points, so after a brief discussion and a bit of research, I pulled the trigger on this offer. The last two sailing dates won't work for us, but other than that we're fairly flexible. We live in Canberra, so we're going to have travel to / from SYD / MEL regardless.

Dumb question: Will I need a valid passport, even though it's only AU ports involved? FAQ's on the Virgin Voyager web site say yes, but it looks to be US-focused. (I let mine expire during the COVID pandemic, and with no plans to travel internationally any time soon, I haven't bothered renewing it.)

I wouldn’t have thought that you’d need a passport for a domestic cruise - being US and Caribbean focussed plus some Med you would need a passport for most of those. I’d drop an email to Sailor Services to find out,

No passports required for any of the eligible cruises. Just photo ID.

Also surprised to see them in Australia.
I watched a series on Foxtel which focused on Virgin Voyages from USA to the Caribbean. Let's just say it isn't the cruise line for me. Happy sailing to those of you who are a 'fit' for VV- I'm sure you will have a good time as it seems to be a full on, exuberant experience.

Took the leap, given an update for 2 people is 60k a 3 up to 6 night cruise for 2 sounds good value.

The way it’s reads it’s inclusive of drinks etc too.
If so even better.
