"Virgin Australia's launch of its next-generation business class seats has been pushed back to mid-year, extending Qantas' valuable lead-time as the two airlines fight for premium passengers on the lucrative east-west market."

via AusBT:Virgin Australia delays new A330 business class to mid-year - Australian Business Traveller

Virgin says the A330 refit will still be complete by the end of August and the B777 refit is still on track for November.

After seeing the new QF J seats I think they can get away with this, the VA design seems both more open and private by comparison. There seem to be lot of issues with the QF design in terms of window placement and staggering, in addition the walls are a little to low and the enclosure quite tight in comparison to other carriers such as CX.

each to their own :)

Perhaps VA have had some "mystery shoppers" fly on the new QF seats and decided to change a few things to their own...

I agree with you, better that VA spends a bit more time having studied the QF product and makes sure it really aces it. But the biggest difference will be on on VA's B777 to LAX against QF's A380, chalk and cheese there with 1-2-1 plus a proper lie-flat bed (no bumps), 18" screen (!) and all that work space and storage space around the seat, that's the thing I notice most with the SkyBed II is there is simply no useful space for your stuff!
