It is irrelevant what passport, or nationality you are/were.

Part of the reason for so many questions is to establish your identity, and they have cross matched the information to your previous declined Visa.

Given the declined ESTA will count as you 2nd declined Visa, whilst it is not impossible, getting a Visa going forward is going to be very difficult.

You are the applicant, you have been declined. It has nothing to do with your passport, current or past.

A denial under Section 214(b) means that you were not able to demonstrate that your intended activities in the United States would be consistent with the classification of the nonimmigrant visa for which you applied.

Well none of us know for sure, but based on what you’ve said and that you applied on 10 May … it’s not looking good. If your trip is anytime soon, I’d talk to the embassy.

To be honest, with a past denial of entry, I wouldn’t want to rely on an ESTA and hoping they haven’t connected the past passport. I’d be applying for a visa so I know I wasn’t wasting money on a return flight to a small room at LAX.

I was expecting positive feedback as I am still waiting for my ESTA approval but seems like I was wrong.

At 144hrs, it is more than likely denied.

Normally approvals are given within minutes or hours, 1-2 days at worst.

In any case, as others note due to the precious issue I'd be going down the embassy route.

As per historical documents and cases by the CBP/DHS an ESTA - Application Denied is classed in the same light as a Visa.

Both are refused entries, and will be treated as multiple entry refusals at the time of application for a nonimmigrant visa at a U.S. Embassy and Consulate.

Using the Mobile Passport Control (MPC App), there is a question that asks "What is your purpose of Travel: Please indicate the primary purpose of travel or "Class of Admission (COA) for each traveler listed below"

And for Visa Waiver holders, the two options are:

• WB - Visa Waiver for Business
• WT - Visa Waiver for Pleasure/Tourism

I am also attending for a conference, so unsure which is the correct selection, but more so - I checked my ESTA application and nowhere does it specify either category for seeing the visa waiver. So not sure which I should select, obviously making the wrong call for the USA could be an issue!

Replying here as well, I selected WB for my recent conference in the US.

Looking back on the stamps in my passport (none from this year's trips!), the immigration agent circled WB for my conference entries and WT for my Disneyland entries.

Already had a scan of the Passport page. The application took no longer than usual, but I don't recall previously having to have a "US Contact"?? Might be my coughty memory of course... Lets see how long it takes this time, assuming approval!
