So with the recent degradation of Status Credits on OW flights I've started the long process to leave Qantas behind.

The only way I might get sucked into staying around is if I can requalify for WP again this year, I've got until 1st of March 2015 and already have 140SCs.

But this year looks to be a bit quieter and mostly discount Y international so I figure the best I can hope for is another 720 SCs leaving me short 340 SCs.

Last year I got two DSC offers and was able to capitalise on both, if I got even one that I could use this year then it might lure me back but it seems that it's not a guaranteed thing - some people don't get one at all and many get ones they can't use.

Do you think DSC's are a thing of the past based on how hard they cut back on them, or is it the opposite - because they cut back they can use them to greater effect to shift volume when they need to?

Is there any rhyme or reason to the DSC offer timings?

The only time I get DSCs is when I already have heaps of travel booked. I even convinced them once to DSC me for a flight that was booked the week before the offer (that got me to WP) Rhyme or reason? Not that I can tell. If they gave me one now I may get to WP0.5. :-)

Often there has been one just after Easter and another each month for those with a end of year two-three months out. Having said that it looks like this year post Easter may not be happening, which is a pity as its probably needed more than ever given the changed effective from July.

Double SC offers will continue to be offered and they will continue to be random.

I always get them, when I already booked my travel to Australia. I sadly never could take advantage of them. My Downunder trips are planned well ahead - so only a short window to book does not work for me. So for me it would be better for a program: Get Double SCs for the next booking you make with QF. That really would make me rethinking my travel plan. On the other hand the limit to the "next booking" would limit the system for the milage runners.

They might be waiting for dry (MASA free) July to tick over

They might also be waiting until after this weekend given the timing of Easter/Anzac Day, or waiting to react to whatever Virgin comes up with. I'd expect to see some sort of EOFY effort.

Like many others lost faith in Qantas past few years, constant change to the detriment of us QFF members, take away give little back, web site fail non user friendly anymore. Pretty much self funded these days so less flying, a mere 2 domestic (Y) and 2 Int. (J) PA, and with less status points and rare double offers from QFF I'll a Plat till Nov.1st after that drop to Gold, still have 2 years Q club left from years ago too if needed.

Being in FNQ, International flights only one choice CX "direct" to HKG, and OneWorld award flights to anywhere out of there plentiful, love this airline and its service, joined last year and now looking for a CC to gain big spend points. On top of this the miles deals by many USA airlines are a bargain so another way to fly on OneWorld airlines at half price or better. So in essence not chasing Qantas status anymore, sick of their antics, fly J overseas anyway for its comfort and benefits so I'm mostly moving on.

I hope that with the introduction of 'fairer flying', all DSC promotions are discontinued.

Agree, but only because the alternative would be to show "fairer flying" to be a complete myth.

Regards,

BD

If I thought I could trust VA to stay the course , I would probably jump. However I am optimistically waiting for a possible reversal by QF of some of the changes. ........ I may be very old by then.

Wether they are offerred or not generally means little to me - a QF booking less than 6 months out is a rare thing for me, let alone the 6-13 week window these generally give.

So, no I don't wait - earlier this month I made bookings for early April 2015.

That's your observation - in mine they are not necessarily random - but each offer can be different.

I was wondering about the 'post Easter' DSC offer only yesterday. We shall see.

I don't wait around for double SC offers as I generally don't get them and I prefer to book international travel far in advance. I did get one last year in a period where I had to book two domestic trips so I took advantage of that. QF's gain and VA's loss so from that point of view it was successful.
I have a trip to LHR in Sep which I've not yet booked (unusual for me) so if a DSC offer lands in the inbox I would be a very happy camper ;)

Same! In fact my wife made a trip to LHR last year at fairly short notice, blissfully unaware that she had received the double SC offer, until they came up on her statement.
I usually book as soon as my dates are firm, and am also planning a trip to UK in (probably) October this year if certain planned events over there happen to schedule. DSC would be most welcome!

Not a personal observation. That was advice given at the Qantas lunch by the person responsible for these double SC offers. ;)

Just out of interest with the 50% extra SC's promotions being offered around lately. As an example - a MEL-BNE in discount Y - am i going to end up with 15 + 7.5 = 22.5 status credits?! WIth a similar lifetime status credits balance ending in 0.5?
Anyone have personal experience on this?

Despite the "official story", I'm not so sure they are random. My one and only targeted DSC offer was for HKG flights. I had previously flown there using Cathay Pacific ;) And this probably still remains my preferred method of getting there. :)
