Waitlist... [SQ award]

Has anyone had any luck getting off a waitlist for a flight?

Nope, even when we took off with empty seats in the cabin I was waitlisted for, I still didn’t get my waitlist cleared. The only reason I ended up with the eventual upgrade was because at checkin I was told SQ were running a promotion and that I could pay to upgrade or use points.

How recently was that, and on what route?

I've got a SYD-SIN-FRA-JFK itinerary, with SYD-SIN confirmed instantly but still waitlisted for SIN-FRA and FRA-JFK with the departure date within a week.

Thanks, Global IT. I asked because I'm waitlisted for an upgrade from Y to J on SIN-IST in June next year. The rest of my itinerary is all in PE but PEdoes not exist on the SIN-IST flight, so I was booked into Y. Now I have enough points to upgrade that to J, but was told I have to waitlist. Yet when I search for that flight I see that J seats are available, with no "only x seats left" limitation.I'm hoping I'll be as fortunate as you were.

When you say space available in J do you mean reward or revenue space?

If it's no reward space it's not relevant to your waitlist

normally if flight loads are low, you get a good chance of getting your waitlist cleared.

Notwithstanding the issue with my upgrade request from Y to PE on the Delhi to Singapore flight I was given an immediate confirmation of points upgrade (requested over the phone with SQ) from Y to J on the following SIN to PER flight with no waitlisting required. As a result of this single recent experience I will from now just assume that if I am waitlisted then I am not going to get the upgrade and if it comes through it will be a bonus but the assumption and expectation will be that I won’t get it. Having said that, i hope that in the future I am proven wrong (maybe it would be different for PPS).

Has anyone had any luck getting off a waitlist for a flight?

Yes, I simply go in to the booking, press "cancel" and I am off the waitlist :D:p

Jokes aside, my experience is that it either comes through within a week or two (but haven't had any like this recently), or at the last minute, or not at all. Can vary by route, time of year etc, many factors come into play. I've had <36 hrs notice with several coming through so when I say last minute ... it really can be last minute.

I have had a few wait lists clear for 2 people probably about 50% hit rate.

These have been mostly PER-SIN or SIN to other Asian destinations though.

I've only waitlisted once this year.SIN-LAX for 2 in F.It cleared in 3 days.
cancelling the J booking was a breeze and points back into account virtually instantly.

Had WL for MEL-SIN in F come through 2 weeks before flight. Then the WL for SIN-MEL in F came through a week before the WL flight date, but the thing is, I was not notified, it was only by chance I was looking at my booking that it had said available for confirmation on the WL flight. Quite annoyed as no SMS or email was sent out and I could have lost that chance to upgrade from F to Suites. Anywho, the wife and I were the only ones in suites.

I'm a blue KF member and was calling up for chasers every few days starting 2-3 weeks before the flight, which I doubt did anything to prompt SQ to release the seats. I even mentioned I wanted F return tickets so I could then book an infant ticket.

Only thing you can do is call up every couple days to politely ask for chasers to be sent off, and cross your fingers. Unless you've got high status is KF, then the waitlist game is all luck.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but thought this might be the best place to ask this waitlist question. We currently have a one way 2 pax J class saver award booking confirmed and ticketed from MEL - CMB. No points left in krisflyer as we used all the points from this flight.

We would like to waitlist a couple of J saver flights (same itin) as the connections work out better. If these waitlists do come through is it just the case of canceling the original booking and re-booking the waitlisted flights?

Do the points from the original booking come back into the account quickly and then use the points available to rebook? Or is this not required because its the same itin just different times? Thanks for any help people might be able to provide :)

I rang up and asked this question as we waitlisted a BRIS-CMB Business Class Flight and then booked MEL-CMB with our points in case the waitlist didnt come through as business class out of Brisbane looked pretty full. I was told to ring up and they could cancel the flights and move across the points straight away.

Maybe ring up and double check though because I have been told different information by different people at Singapore Air before.

Great thanks claire93 - Will call them up and check.

I am looking to travel anytime between 22 Dec 2018 - 2 Jan 2019 leaving SYD to go to SIN in J X 3. All are waitlists except the 7pm flight out of syd or the canberra stopover. Do you think the daytime flights will clear quickly if I waitlist? I need to book accommodation too, so in a dilemma.

Any tips? I don't have enough miles for standard award, these are available, I only have enough for 3 X J Savers.

The return flight seems easier to obtain.

Thanks,
K.

If 3 seats in J not available, then make sure you try to book only 2 in J 1st.
If still only available for waitlist, try for just 1 seat ( and put remaining on waitlist).
You may as well put all possible departure times on waitlist - it costs nothing

Ok thanks. So not a good idea to put all 3 on waitlist? Is the best idea to book the times that are confirmed for all 3 even though we don’t like it then waitlist the rest?

After I have used up all my miles for the confirmed seats can I still waitlist even with no miles?
