Waitlist... [SQ award]

Ok thanks. So not a good idea to put all 3 on waitlist? Is the best idea to book the times that are confirmed for all 3 even though we don’t like it then waitlist the rest?

After I have used up all my miles for the confirmed seats can I still waitlist even with no miles?
You need to waitlist 1st - as points are needed to go on waitlist. Then, once waitlisted, get as many confirmed saver seats as you can.

Can I call up and book you reckon ? Without getting charged.

Interesting issue today.

Was trying for economy award SYD-SIN-CNX for travel Christmas Day and there wasn't any availability.

Checked SYD-SIN and economy award available on midday flight Christmas Day. Checked SIN-CNX and economy award available on early morning Boxing Day. The 2 aren't available together.

Called up and explained issue and she made an award booking for me including those 2 flights until I transferred some points to KrisFlyer.

I asked if she can waitlist me for the later SYD-SIN flight via CBR so I can spend Christmas Day at home and was advised she is unable to do and I have to request online. Check booking online and I cannot make any changes.

Am I stuck with midday flight? Not a big deal as award availability at that time of year is very scarce.

Gday

Here is one i didnt think was possible. Tried to book a partner award last weekend. Got to the final page where you pay and it processed then went back to the homepage and i thought it had errored cause the partner awards on SQ website are flaky and my card never got charged. Went back to try again and the seats were gone. Gutted. Confirmed this with awardnexus. Tickets gone.

Tonight I booked an alternate time on the same route and date, paid my taxes etc then went into My bookings to check the booking and to my surprise i saw the original booking with a PNR sitting there. Clicked on it and it was a waitlist and its status was 'reserved' which for SQ/MI flights means good to go. Tried to confirm flights online like for SQ/MI flights but got a reject message saying can only do this online for SQ/MI flights not partners. Rang up Krisflyer and asked them to investigate. Sure enough the partner award had cleared so i ticketed it and paid the taxes. The cherry on the cake was that i had to cancel the second booking I made and was looking at $USD75 pp fee. I asked nicely if they could waive the fee due to the website issues, he said he would ask his manager and call back. Called me back, all good to wave the fee. What a champ. Love SQ.

I never knew partner awards could go on a waitlist.

Pele.

I needed some help swapping in a flight I had waitlisted to a confirmed multi-leg booking. The CSR couldn't assist on the spot but called me back once they had worked out how to do it. Agree the SQ team are very helpful!

Has anyone ever tried to use a doctor's letter to support a waitlisted award upgrade?

I've been on the waitlist since last October for an award upgrade from Economy to Business on a SIN to IST SQ flight in about a month's time. Thr rest of my booking is in PE but there's no PE on the that light. I'm now suffering from considerable lower back pan and although it's now improving slowly, I would really like that upgrade. I phoned the Krisflyer number was told that there are still available business class seats on that flight and I could submit my doctor's report in support of my waitlist request. Problem is that I was given only an email address, but I have found a fax number +61 65 6789 8777. How could I link my doctor's letter (which doesn't have my flight details) sent by fax to a separate email to the kf_contact address?

Can you print & scan the doctor's letter and send via email as an attachment to the kf address?

Just a quick addition here of my waitlisted experience.

I recently waitlisted 4 flights for a trip business return Syd - Sin in a bit over 2 months time (24th - 29th July). They were waitlisted on the 16th May.

There was one booking reference for their new A380 product SQ 232/221 both ways that I wanted most. Checking how occupied this flight was using expert flyer, it was only about 40% full for both flights - 2 months from departure. For this booking reference I was only waitlisted for the return flight 221.

I spoke to someone from Singapore Airlines on the phone yesterday and very politely mentioned how I noticed the flight was relatively unoccupied on expert flyer. In response she said she was unfortunately not in the position to do anything except extend the Ticketing Time Limit confirmation of the outbound flight and that a waitlist in this position usually clears. Helpful and excellent customer service as always.

later that day, I canceled the 3 other booking references.

Today, 5 days after my initial waitlisting of the booking, it cleared and is available for confirmation.
It’s obviously unclear whether this was a result of the phone call or not, although doing my research on waitlist confirmation I did notice a slight occurrence of waitlisting’s being cleared the following day after a phone call with SIA.

My advice to those curious about the approval of the waitlist would be to politely call SIA and express further interest in your waitlisting. They have always been helpful and there is little harm done being persistent if done in the correct manner.

I hope this helps,
Good luck with your waitlisting.
