Want to buy a new Mac laptop: What are my options?

I compromised space for performance on my macbook pro - went the 7200 RPM 160GB HDD vs 5200RPM 250GB. cost a bit more, but well worth it.

given the choice today, I'd go the SSD.. carry an inexpensive external WD passport or something if you don't need frequent access to a large data store that doesn't need to be installed (videos etc being the main culprits).

Is it advisable to buy a laptop in Sydney (given weaker AUD and potential refund of GST on departure) or buying laptop in the US?

If buying a mac then buy in Oz...not much difference in price and you get the GST refund. Bigger discounts can be had OS on Windows laptops but depending on how much research time you have again it might be easier to buy locally and get the GST refund

Thanks Mrmaxwell. I'll get one in Sydney in order to claim GST refund. Considering the weaker AUD the savings is around $100 . These pages show the prices of models in Australia and the US:

Apple - MacBook Air - Technical Specifications

MacBook Air - Buy new MacBook Air Notebook Computers - Apple Store (U.S.)

Will buy the 13in 256GB for longer battery life.
