All I did was send 3 payments via PayPal to my s.o., she did the same. ...

Well not surprised that this ended badly. People effectively paying themselves is always deemed a no no.

A lot of small business operators get caught out too when they get a merchant facility and start churning their own cash through it to earn points.

yes the only time I use my CC at work is when I am genuinely buying a product. The idea of slushing money thru can be treated as cause for cancellation.

Am Considering a BPay to my SMSF account (this is one deposit method offered by my fund's bank) via a rival service. Has anyone had any experience with this method. I like the idea of getting a few extra points for this but don't want to endanger my otherwise very clean record with Amex and the ability to earn on everything else.

While this is hard work for you and I feel your pain, this has given me a new avenue to earn LOADS more points.
i've put thru $620K thru here in the last year, and haven't even done the Staff Super yet

both of my SMSF payments made successfully thru REward pay yesterday. points and transaction all posted correctly. maybe the SMSF having a completely different name was the difference. phew!

Why would you do it after reading the experiences on here? Risk your whole account with Amex for not a large amount of points that comes at a cost anyway.
