Here's to a good reason to board early, even if it means sometimes giving up extra booze at the QP.

Seriously, I was on PER-KGI two weeks ago in the morning. KGI is an outpost for a lot of mining operations, which means QF flights (et. al. airlines from PER) are used for FIFO transport. What this also means is that the flights are almost guaranteed full at all times, and everyone carries their limit in hand carry. (After all, that safety equipment etc. needs to be carried somewhere!)

When we got on board we were among the last to board. The 738 was completely full with tough cotton shirters and hi-vis jacketeers.....and nary space for even a mouse in the overhead lockers! I had to find space about 4-6 rows back from my seat. Needless to say, deplaning was a chore, although I managed to convince some very kind people to pass me my bag from the overhead locker.

In hindsight, I was just plain stupid. I should have shoved the bag under my seat. OTOH I guess that may have been difficult, because my knees were almost touching the seat pocket....I was thinking - what's the deal with this? Is this a smaller 738 or am I getting fatter?

I really don't like the way, that more and more, air travel in Australia is beginning to look like air travel in the US (carry-on sinks et al).

I think most of AFF and FT would mandate this kind of travel as much as possible! Not the kitchen sink thing, but rather travelling on carry-on only. Of course, everyone (?) here is good at travelling within the rules of carry-on...... When that amount of carry-on (notwithstanding class and/or status bonus allowances) is put together, you'd be surprised what actually is within limits seemingly on the outside looks like carrying the kitchen sink....
