Water dripping inside aircraft??

In 2008 we traveled Perth-Sydney-gold Coast with Qantas on return Sydney-Perth we noticed water dripping inside the cabin before and during takeoff... I have never seen/heard of this happening before is it normal???. It was on an old 747-300 which has now been retired.

I would suggest, without further info, that the most likely cause would be condensation. This is not uncommon when boarding aircraft in the tropics and has no relationship with the age of the aircraft.

Ive noticed it before on a QF A380 in Singapore in the first few economy rows during boarding, I just assumed it was condensation from the aircon.

Agree that it's condensation, have seen this at tropical ports a few times.

I've heard a FA tell a pax that it was down to "they're probably flushing the hydraulics". I got evils when I burst into uproarious laughter!

Yes, definitely condensation.

Had it a few years ago leaving Singapore on QF 744.

It was a huge amount of water not just dripping. closer to a half open hose. I'd guess about a bucket and a half or two buckets full before we leveled off and it stopped. FA's had to move a pax cos the seat was totally drenched.

Very off putting to the nervous flyer sitting next to me.

If happening on the ground before take-off then its condensation as others have mentioned. If happening during climb or cruise it could be due to a leaking water bottle in a passenger's carry-on bag in the overhead locker. As the aircraft climbs and the cabin pressure drops, poorly sealed liquid containers can leak.

Had it happen upon take-off once out of a very humid SYD back when QF2 flew to MEL.

Possibly 2 to 3 litres of water poured into the aisle beside us. We were underneath the back of the 'bubble' and it was explained to us it was probably from a Refrigeration unit directly above us.

On a recent flight from Canada, it was ice crystals rather than water dripping. But yes, it seemed to be condensation from the ventilation system.

I've noticed this once after landing on a flight from CBR to MEL (B737) about a month or so ago. I put it down to condensation as well and didn't think twice about it.

About 3 years ago (can't recall the exact date) I noticed that water was p*ssing (not dripping) down the side of the cabin - turned out that some idiot had put a 2l water bottle in the overhead with the lid not properly screwed.

My day pack got drenched in the overhead locker once and the FA said it happens quite often when people's water bottles leak. She took my pack and dried it and the contents out and I received a QF voucher "for being understanding and not making a fuss'!

Gets even uglier when the cork pops out of the bottle in flight and it starts to rain red wine:shock: ... glad not to be under that locker:!:

The image in my head of someone attempting to drink the red as it drips is kind of scary.

I always thought the water leaking was just a fault with the hydro power systems and it was coming out of the power outlets in the roof :shock:

Have seen this occur several times. One 747-300 rained over a couple sitting near me. Have also experienced some water dripping on me, but not a lot.

As already commented, does tend to occur in high humidity conditions. A similar issue is the "clouds" of "smoke / steam" coming out of the air-con upon landing.

Doesnt it just happen when it's raining outside - water leaking through the sunroof....

Happens often on the buses in Brisbane in summer when they have the AC cranked up.
