AS miles best value for flying J. Read up on it, it took me over a year to get my head around it and that was over 3 years ago.

Just booked 5 x J perth - jfk over xmas return on cathay. Wouldnt fly any other way
Thanks for the heads up, do you recommend buying AS miles?

It depends where you want to go to. Alaska miles are great for getting to the US , BUT you cant use them from AU to Europe unless you book 2 awards....

For sure I've used AS many times over the past few years, but you do need to do some leg work if booking CX. There is an excellent article about buying using AS miles here.
$633 for one way to HKG on CX J flight is a steal. But I think you mentioned the availability scarce from AU to HKG but not so bad returning..is there anyway to check whetherthere will be availability for certain days before committing to buyijg points?

Join JL or BA free or use Award Nexus to check CX award J seats.Unlike AA miles where you can book then buy, AS you need to buy miles first before booking.

Last one I did using AS miles in J was CX BNE/HKG/BNE all up cost was around AUD$1750, absolute bargain IMO. Keep in mind there is a 7.5% tax added to USA miles purchases.
