Realised I hadn't received notification of my upcoming flight on Tuesday so went online to try and check in. Also recalled my frustration with this gawd-awful system that doesn't allow you to simply select your booking and check in. Instead of course you have to either remember a six letter reservation code (or copy it from your booking) or "retrieve using your Velocity number" which is insane as you're already logged in.

Anyway I just went through all this and got the "check-in not available at this time" which could mean anything, like I put in the wrong reservation code. Tried it on the phone and got the same result.

Why, oh why, does this happen as often as it does? And why after how many years cannot VA fix this bug? And the bug where you can't check-in without going through this rigmarole?

Make it simple. It can't be that hard. Why does it never get fixed despite EVERYONE hating it?

(sorry, rant over)

I still can't check-in - got the email last night and used that link but same error. Will call them this morning.

I think I have an idea why though. They have cancelled my direct flight to TSV and I now go via BNE at the same departure time. Both flights show on my profile but yesterday the SYD-TSV sector was showing as 'flown'. I can only hope I get the points and SCs for it as well!

I'll keep talking to myself for the benefit of my viewers...

Rang Virgin - they cleared the "non-flight" and sent me a new itinerary. Now I could check-in. But wait! I thought I'd better do it on my phone to get the SMS (yes I now realise I didn't need to do that) so I clicked the link on my phone which took me to some Sabre website "www.virtuallythere.com" where I couldn't see anywhere to check-in although it had all my flight details. There was a button to log in (you'd think I'd already be logged in) and I clicked that. Instead of asking me for my Velocity number and password it asked for me email and password. I thought the password might be the same as for Velocity but it didn't work. I then clicked "forgot my password" and it said "no such account" or words to that effect. But I could see anywhere to even set up an account. Anyone know how this works? I haven't flown for a month but not that much has changed?

Anyway back to doing it on the computer - got in via Velocity with several more (normal) logins - they love logging us in don't they? It offered me a new 'tour' which I thought I'd better click yes to - it just looked the same as last time so nothing new although it just froze on the first frame so I had to exit. Started again without the tour. Got to seat selection and found that as a SG I couldn't even select a seat in front of row 7 - rows 4-6 blanked out still although heaps of seats from 7 onwards. This is weird - when I buy the ticket I choose row 7 then move to 4 or 5 at T-48 - nearly always can get on. Maybe a glitch, maybe both flights are full up front, maybe that's the new deal.

So overall I'm still flying VA but they are trying to drive me away with the online experience. Regarding on board and everything else concerned with flying I have zero problems. I do wonder though. My flying has shifted from QF almost completely in the last three years but QF is way ahead online. Once I requalify as SG I might have another look...
