Booking a flight? Airlines' overseas websites offer better deals | Money | The Observer

Saying UK online as not as good as US / other countries sites.

Certainly true with Tiger and Air Asia, and Jetstar has a few 'National Day' specials as well.
"This seems to be a breach of the credit card "organisations honour all cards" rules. It may also be questionable under the domestic anti racial discrimination laws of the countries from which the web sites are operating"

I guess the same can be said for Qantas but that is more to do with the market where the airfare is sold.

Either way I don't mind as I am prepared to do the research before purchasng the airfare. I will be booking return flights from Qantas SIN website for travel later this year and the return airfare with an open-jaw is ~AUD800 for SIN-MEL-SYD//BNE-SYD-MEL-SIN. There is no way to get a similar airfare sold in Australia especially as I am tavelling during school holiday period.

I always thought I could only book Qantas flights via the Australian website using my Australian Credit card....Am I wrong ? Can I book via any Qantas region website.

Learn so much from this forum.

An Australian resident using an Australian credit card should not have any problems booking airfares from Qantas US website.

Interestingly an LAX-BNE return (via SYD on the way back to LAX) for travel in May-Jun is only~USD1064. And even more interesting if selecting the JQ flight BNE-SYD instead of the QF flight BNE-SYD costs $1 more.

Wow, I never knew that could be done. I'll keep that in mind when booking my next flight overseas. Obvioulsy would have to book the flights 1 way only from Aus and then 1 way from USA but good to know that it can be done.

Fares are pretty good from USA as their probably promoting Australia after Oprah's visit in December

If you go the USA regularly (i.e at least once every 12 months) then book a one-way award to the USA from Australia and then purchase a return ticket from Qantas US website and continue to book return airfares from Qantas US website.

I book return flights from SIN back to Australia regularly and is much cheaper that what it would be booked from Australia and takes seasonality and school holidays out of the equation. The trip I booked for June-Oct cost <AUD800 and combined with business class airfare BKK-SIN cost ~AUD600 I will earn 200 SCs for cost ~AUD1400.

Try booking a SYD-BKK return on QF1-QF2 for less than that at peak travel times and it s only going to earn 60 SCs anyway.
