Hi all,

My partner and I are getting married in NZ in a few weeks, and I figured I should probably check how we are going to get her wedding dress there!

I'm currently thinking we will fold in half and put in overhead cabin above our bags

Unless there is another place to hang it on the VA 737s? I think there is a full height suit closet on the 777, but don't think there is on the 737?

The suit rack behind business class is probably not high enough for a full length dress

Hi all,

There are other reliable means of transporting a large item other than as cabin luggage. Can it be folded in half? If so, talk with one of the major couriers such as DHL.

My advice would be to lay it on top of your other luggage in the overhead, folded in half.

And be super friendly and happy with the FAs. They have seen and heard it all so a smile and good attitude will often get a little bit more assistance. Heck, pack them a little wedding themed gift bag with some sealed chocs inside as a way of "sharing your excitement". Ask if J is full and if not, its it possible to put your dress in one of Js overhead.

could hang it behind the business class seats in a suit bag?

A dress is too long and anything like a wedding dress is too bulky without being forced behind the seat and potentially damaged.

Suit jackets themselves are only hanging a few cms above the cabin floor.

True, all depends on the size and style of the wedding dress. A traditional full gown and train would probably be better placed in a large suitcase and checked in.

Contact VA.

I'm sure they have dealt with this situation before and will probably have a solution

Would purchasing an extra bag be an option, folded carefully in its own suitcase along with protection then check it in.

EDIT: Muppet beat me to it

Last week we went a box Sydney to Melbourne. It was a box sealed with duct tape.

What we got on arrival was a smaller archive box, a number of items were smashed, a number of items were missing plus additional items that didn't belong to us such as a Bryan Adams CD and a packet of Poise.

For a wedding dress, I wouldn't trust anyone but carrying it myself.

Just wear it.

I agree. Start sweetly explaining you are off to get married. Say you wish to travel in the coughpit with the pilot. If they throw you back into Y, make sure you film the entire exchange and you will make gold on youtube :)
