Interesting data point from last Thursday's flight to AKL from SYD on QF149. I was seated in 4E and had to use the rest room. Obviously on a narrow body like this seated in coach where I am the best restroom is up front in J. Had no pushback accessing the restroom from coach. Perhaps the staff knew I was QF Gold and therefore entitled to accessing J restrooms as a perk (except flights to the US where DHS rules mean this is disallowed)?

Almost certainly no. Just QF crew being lax (not LAX :p ) about it - and the lack of a rope like on VA. Sorry to burst the World Gold halo.

I would agree with you except for the fact that I saw a number of guests in Y being turned back when they tried to use the J restroom. Perhaps I was being sneaky but I doubt it given how much such coveted porcelain is guarded.

I don't think accessing the restroom at the front is one of the benefits listed on QF.

It would be funny if any airlines actually make it as such. Imagine OW announcing their next big alliance benefit - "Access to J toilets regardless of class of travel" 🚽

Also, looking at the crowds at any given QF lounges, if accessing the J toilet is a benefit, there'd be a long queue for the J toilets down that single aisle.

It was most probably up to the FA at that moment to enforce the rule or not. If a Y pax walks towards the front during meal service with the cart in front, perhaps they'd more likely get turned back. But if there's nothing happening down the aisle, perhaps the FA would just let it go.
 
I'm a lowly Bronze member and will be on a business OWA trip soon for my honeymoon, is there any way to get a small message on say, our boarding passes (ie. "Happy Honeymoon" or similar? My first flight on the trip is on QF to HK.

Probably a long shot, but worth an ask anyway.

Congratulations on both the honeymoon and the J flights! When you're flying in J, you are the same as anyone else there! No reason to think lowly of yourselves 😎

Would love to find out how you go with the special request.

A search on the forum seems to suggest that QF would occasionally print a "happy birthday: message on the boarding pass.

Lucky you didn't have some of our AFF colleagues in J on the flight!

The VA magnetic rope is very important to some in J!
I know QF don't have this.
Though on a narrow body on another airline, have seen cabin crew use the drinks trolley block access to the loo while the captain/FO came out of the coughpit to use the loo for a few secs!

Can't say I was always impressed with the state of the J toilets.
People don't behave differently because of QFF status. The ones who leave pee drops all over the seat will continue to do so, be it CL, P1 or else.

gee, this is a tough one. Used to be that those with access to the VIP team, the old P1 SST, could request such things. I tried it once for my sister's birthday and they said yes they'd do it, but nada eventuated. So much for that surprise effort. I do know of some who have managed to get messages though - but higher status with access to dedicated teams.

With no status and only access to off shore call centres this is possibly difficult to arrange.

It's a bit of a long shot, but perhaps trying email to [email protected] address MAY elicit something. It's not a QFF issue of course, but there seems no obvious (bar a form on the QF website) contact method for customer care who might even be able to do this thing. If a human actually reads your email it may be that they could possibly direct it somewhere appropriate. I hate to say it, but I doubt it sadly... honestly though it seems unlikely but no harm in trying.

Of course I add my congrats on your upcoming nuptials and hopefully a fantastic honeymoon trip!

This is common on just about every airline since 9/11 - certainly Australian and the US airlines I've been on. Some others are a bit more lax, but narrowbody or widebody carts are often used to block the galley/coughpit area. It's certainly nothing new.

I once arranged a surprise birthday cake for my wife travelling alone with CX in Y.

They gave her an entire cake 🎂, not just a slice 🍰! She couldn't finish the whole thing! When she landed, she was eager to tell me that CX gave her a surprise cake on her birthday and how incredibly lovely and observant the airline was.

She later found out it was a HKD 300 service that I arranged via email. Nevertheless, it was a fun surprise!

I tried looking up on google and couldn't find something similar with Qantas.

I'm not sure how/why a welcome card/note is offered. I can confirm that I have not received any such notes so far, however, in the international QF flights that I have taken in the past 4 weeks, I can confirm that some pax in the J and PE cabin got those cards/notes hand delivered by the CSM and in one instance, by someone from the flight deck. I'd say a FO, given the 3 stripes, but I may have not noticed properly.

I'm unable to tell what status those pax where. But I'd say CL or P1 or their PCV was High (or whatever is the high equivalent) - given the attention they received. Even in Y some pax received amenity kits, PJs and other favours.

Side Note : After I got upgraded at the gate on QF38 a couple of weeks back, I was able to send someone a champagne, amenity kit & PJs (when available, after handing out to all J pax) in Y.
