Yes, I meant OWE. I am not sure that would be easy for Australians to achieve (or even be worth achieving) without flouting QF.
I'm thinking it totally depends on ones personal travel needs/patterns.

Eg if I fly to/through Europe at least a fww times a year, BAEC (or IB/AY) could make sense )thinkong of the minimum flightvrequirements) but if I am kore a USA type, then AS or AA perhaps.. lits of asia? CX

Something like BA appeals given full credit for things like MH/QR and of course QF. I haven't looked into tge others re that aspect, but potentially matters again depending on personal travel habits, including CoS and so on.

Or go QR and switch to VA dom :)

Switching to BAEC is the best thing I’ve done. We do travel to Europe most years and with family in the UK it’s easy to rack up the eligible flights. If not we travel to Asia a lot so will spend a bit more and fly BA to SIN or absolute worst case is we drop back a tier for a year

In addition to what others already have floated of other programs, my travel pattern would get me to JAL Mileage Bank OWS level without even noticing. OWE might need a bit of planning but would be perfectly doable. Besides, it's a double bonus when you also like the airline which hosts your program.

The Airline Agnostic FFP is the cool thing that all the popular kids are playing with these days. Enjoy your impending freedom 😄
BFOD…? 😉

Although, with more and more airlines unbundling J fares the old school thinking that flying J is the same as having status has gone out the window.

Having LTG at least provides that nice safety net flying QR P fare bucket etc.

I realise this may look like I'm nibbling at both ends of the argument, but if people do manage to get OWE with another program then their flying pattern is likely to be the same as when they were with QF, won't it? So boycotting QF but still flying them. And the main advantage for Aussies of the QF programme over other OW programmes is surely the ability to earn a lot of points from ground activity. I'm not sure the churning bonuses exist for other OW programmes, in which case these fleeing members are likely still to collect QF points anyway. Aren't they?

There are other options, but besides VFF, the others (Avios, AA, *A) are a tad harder to earn here. Maybe UA or SQ if flying VA and *A. But you’re generally not getting consistent OWE recognition.

There’s an old saying “cut off your nose to spite your face”

Is there any risk classic + will actually drive up QF airfares? If they link it to cash fares there is an incentive for them to make the cash fares higher??

It really depends on one's personal circumstances, but I could get OWE through AA for half the effort it takes to get it through QF. So that's why I'd switch if QF turfed the one benefit I care about that's exclusive to QF WP.

Airfares are driven by offer, demand, and competition. I don't see CR+ influencing it.
Normally would 100% agree. But if QF had the view that people want to use up their points at any cost, and some will always fly QF despite the premium cost, I am wondering is whether they will try it,

Cash fares are tied to what the market will bear — if they could charge more for them, they already would be.

The aim of CR+ is different: to devalue people's points by getting them to redeem them for 1c/pt while doing just enough to address the common criticism that points are worthless because there's no flights available.

Nah, just by diversifying across several foreign FFPs with points/miles and exploiting each program’s sweet spot. I always recommend this approach instead of pursuing status by spending way too much with an undeserving local carrier selling “bundles of rights”.

Fair enough. So a $600 airfare is 60,000 points at 1c/1pt. If so that is just awful.

Especially considering taxes still need to be paid, no QFF points earn, no (or reduced for PC) SC earns.

I vaguely remember Qantas sometime offer a sale on P+P which would roughly equate to 1c/pt (someone correct me if wrong) but taxes included, points earn, and full serve of SC. This was almost worth it for people with large points balance. Much better than toasters.
