Well that told me! QFF Plat line!

What IT issues? I tried checking in for flight tomorrow night on Dash-8 and I have been assigned 4C with first 3 blocked and row 10 also blocked. Every other seat is vacant. It would appear that T-80 hours is not working for this flight.

I guess there are some weird glitches occasionally.

There was a period today where a QF server went down.

The down time did create issues at the time for the FF section of the QF web page

While not the WP line, I was rather impressed with the call centre the other day... I'm doing a QF20 BNE-SYD (333) with my partner (on two different PNRs), and wanted to assign 45A&B or 45J&K, as there don't seem to be any other seats on this A/C type that have any extra legroom (while still being located together). As there is an exit slide impacting the window seats, QF don't allow these seats to be selected online. While I would usually avoid the slide seats, it's only for an hour, and means I can easily get up without anyone needing to move... Long story short, on a Saturday afternoon my call went straight to the standard centre, where the staff member said they were unable to override the block. I (politely) mentioned that I'd call the premium desk back on Monday and ask them to do it, when she said that she could just ask one of them for me... On checking my booking online two hours later, I had the seats I wanted :D

I'm impressed that she actually bothered - I was expecting to have to call back! Even more impressive was the simplicity that the two bookings were 'linked' in Amadeus, and that as the bookings included a flight on a non-Amadeus airline, the PNRs for that airline were supplied without needing to ask for it.

I'll send a nice email to QF when I get around to it :)

.....This is only the second time I have phoned the Plat line and I have come away not feeling any love! Maybe I am expecting too much! Does anyone actually get a better service on the Plat line than they would using the normal QFF number?

Whenever I call I begin by informing them that I know Tony Hancock.
Never fails.
Apologies TH for my presumptuousness.

I think you will find that even "Premium" would have had to queue such a request in the same way - maybe they would have been more proactive in offering such.

As a PS I managed to get Row 5 on a almost full PER-KTA.

I was in 5C and clearly the person in 5A was Platinum with a Shadow! :)

ISTR the DHC-8s are an exception as they (?may be) more sensitive to load balancing, and thus the very forward and aft seating remains blocked unless the flight is very full. Happy to be corrected, but ISTR this from previous threads....

Where are you getting a DHC-8 to/from John?

This is correct in regards to the weight and balance of the a/c.

I would be interested in that also. Booked on MEL-LST (and return) in a couple of weeks. Have never seen a seat map, only get window/aisle preference. Very interested in the T-80 thing too - sounds great!!

Just goes to show that Platinum is no longer once as special as it once was, presumably due to so many now getting to this level. Might explain the supposed degragation in benifits, Ie the program is now doing a natural readjustment to match the exclusivity of each level.

80 hours before scheduled departure time, all seats in the cabin open up for selection regardless of status and booking class.
I think it's a bit of a stretch to say all seats open up, although if you are one of the more valuable people (from a QF perspective) on the flight it may seem that way. I can assure you that for Gold and Silver members (and I assume Bronze), nowhere near all the seats open up.
And not even for WP.

See this discussion on "Notional Seats" andn PCV: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ram/why-row-4-open-gold-42904.html#post675322

This comes into action for domestic flights on or shortly after T-80.

When I phoned the Plat line a few months back and was requesting a points upgrade. During the course of the conversation, as I was explaining why I'd booked a JASA over a Classic award, she said, and I quote "during our Qantas call centre training we're advised to never argue with a Platinum member as they [know] more about the processes involved than the majority of Qantas call centre staff"

Couldn't help it but hang-up smiling :D

Best part of this is a majority of the time the plat line gets you the same staff that take every other phone call... Nothing special about the plat team most of the time...

... the ones that are paying attention answer "Qantas premium .." - and that's normally a good sign.

That has been my experience. I have to say when the call has been answered "Qantas premium..." I have had a pretty good experience.

When I punch in TonyHancock's QFF number into the automated system - I always get GREAT service when they answer "Good Morning Sir - We Know Who You Are" :)

(Then I tell them I'm booking for my good friend - dfcatch :)

I would of thought that putting in TH's. FF no. would get you straight through to Alan Joyce's mobile? ;)

TonyHancock can you let me know your FF number so I can see what the other end of the spectrum is like! :p

On a serious note I wonder what details are shown on the screens when you call? I do often send positive feedback about staff so I hope I haven't got "Grumpy Git" on my profile!

Same experience here. It is quite a hit and miss and nothing "premium".

I had agents who insisted:
- That a JASA would not earn miles and SCs
- That a Points+Pay booking would not earn any miles and SCs
- That they cannot change a seat assignment, I should retry it when checking in online.
- That I am not allowed to leave the airport in MEL on a AKL-MEL-BNE routing as it is an international flight. (MEL-BNE on a domestic flight).
- That on my AKL-MEL-BNE routing I would not have access to my luggage until arriving in BNE.

So nothing premium here!

Some of us have an Excel code set up so it shows automatically on our flight tracking spreadheet.

What kind of spreadsheet do you use for this? is there a chance you could please share a scrubbed copy?
