Wendouree allocations and general discussion

Received my delivery yesterday. My order was the same as the last couple that have been posted. Pretty chuffed to finally get a decent amount

-6 straight cab sav
-6 cab malbec
-6 shiraz mataro
-6 muscat

Is the muscat a drink now wine or will it improve with cellaring?

I could be mistaken, but my understanding that fortifed wine doesn't continue to mature once bottled.

Received my delivery this morning, ordered a mixed 6 and received 3 x Shiraz Mataro, 2 x Cab Malbec, and 1 x Muscat. Happy with that for a first little haul. Will have a Shiraz Mataro in the coming weeks and put the rest down for a few years.

Well done everyone scoring deliveries in the past week or so. It makes sense to me that people are getting a Shiraz blend and a Cab blend so we can at least see how they age over time. I aint complaining about what we got this year as it beats getting zero.

Well done. What was your original request and you crayon colour? Just trying to understand the logic or lack of thereof.
Vic, green crayon, 5th year ordering. Was successful year 1 and 2 (4 mixed each year), 3 and 4 nothing each year. This year I ordered 3 of each.

I don't try and understand the process for green crayons, just happy to receive something

So I called them, they tried to debit my card for $280 on 11/9 so maybe 4 bottles plus shipping. It was declined, no phone call, nothing now I missed out . So annoying

Does that mean they're finished for the year? If so, I guess I've missed out....again.

That is bloody annoying, especially given that the customer mobile number is on the form

Is this your first rodeo?

Got on the list during Covid. First year with a crayon marking. Never had an order filled. I think this is now the fourth time I've sent in an order request. Each time has just been for three of everything.

Received a letter in the mail today (dated 16th Sept) telling me that I've missed out. "Precedence being given to customers of the longest standing" apparently is how it works.

I'm more annoyed with the time wasting involved with these folks than the missing out on the wine.

For all those depressed they did not get what they ordered, do not worry. This is my first year on the list and I received a letter there was no allocation for me this year (as expected) though I am on the list for next year. Looking forward to nothing next year as well, though moving up the order slightly would be nice. Thanks for all the photos and info on the process.

EDIT: My letter was posted earlier this year, so I guess you could call it my first year.

Hang in there, I managed to get my first order (a mixed 6 pack) this year, my forth year on the list and second year getting an actually order form.

Any mention of yield size or number of varieties for the 2023 vintage on your letter?

I've been buying for 10 years (red crayon), and i received less of my request than green crayons so i don't believe their 'system' is refined enough to give precedence to long standing customers.

Had some absolute gems last night with family.. The 2000 was singing, still a little primary fruit on the nose. 15 as expected a fresh, fruitful beast. And the Gaia was brambles black fruits, chocolate, and some tertiary going on. The 15 Cab, a delightful, fresh but softened tannins. Acid is softer on this one. 🍷🤙🏻 all were very nice.

No mention of yield or offerings for the '23 vintage other then the below.

"We will advise you next year in the hope that we [Wendouree] can supply something from the slightly more extensive vintage of 2023".

Management of crops was challenging in the later part of the season. Some fruit was left on the vines based on the growing difficulties overall. Parcels of the quality fruit was harvested in the reds, depending on location of fruit. Riesling was the pick of the varietals this vintage.
On the 24 it will be very different as frosts have hit hard, the Clare and Barossa areas. A lot of vineyards have struggled with the four days just as bud burst came. A lot of Big cough fans around this early season. Has wiped a good amount of the crops. Fingers crossed they get something.

For those that can recall, how long between writing a request to be put on the mailing list and receiving a response?
