...how many bottles of wine and beers to order?

We'd probably leave two bottles (one red, one white) on the table and a few beers to begin with then top things up from there as required. Let's say 80 people in total.

What do they say is an approximate guesstimate per person – assuming that some don't drink, some enjoy cultural food pairings, some enjoy a glass or three and others drink it up by the gallon with a complete lack of respect to the wine itself?

I'd like to maximise bonus QFF points with this large order too so if you have any wisdom to share on that front too, please do so.

Really down to the age of your guests and how much they drink in general. At ours many of our guests were pregnant/had young kids or were driving. Had we married 5-7 years earlier we would probably have doubled the bar allowance. As it was we paid on consumption rather than per head and saved a heap. We even opened the bar to spirits after 2 hours just to spend something…

If buying all in advance, chat to Uncle Dans or similar about returning unused bottles and what condition they need to be in

Totally agree. Last wedding we went to with 100 people consumption was the way to go as so many younger generation want to drive and drink little and the end total worked out twice as much white was consumed versus red.

Hmm, ok, interesting.

My idea was that we'd be paying less for premium wines, rather than the venue's stock standard house reds and whites. However, that would suggest either not having enough or overstocking!

By the way, does the Qantas Wines website have any moscato?

How long is the reception place open till also needs to be factored in.

Not sure if anyone would do it these days, but my old bottle shop, we would take back unopened/undamaged stock (wine and champers) and refund it. If beer cartons were unopened we'd take back too.

I remember reading that there is a caterer's calculation for this. And it worked out to be far, far less that I would have thought. I'll try to find the article. The ones I search for online just then are not correct - they have a vested interest in over-catering.

Dan will do the same

Not that I can see, it is not listed under white wine

Thanks, yes, that would be grand. I've only seen branded calculators from folks who'd ideally like us to purchase from them!

Suspect we'll be going from 6:30pm – 11pm.

A shame QF does not have Moscato. Perhaps their palate is more refined! Not quite my go-to either but then one must cater for the sheep. :p

Congratulations on your impending wedding. Hopefully you only do it once so enjoy the wine and booze! Don't forget to eat something otherwise you will be toasted quicker than all your guests.

Give Prosecco a go mate safer imo..

Statistically speaking, is this usually a more popular option?

Yep, we've got some already. Thanks for the suggestion!

Is riesling a necessity too?
The Prosecco appeals to more people, You could do Riesling as a second white, I’d go a neutral white more like a Pinot gris or a lighter style chardy.

Just an update – thanks all for your support! We had a blast and the ratios worked out perfectly.

Guests especially seemed to rave about the Bests Great Western Cabernet Sauvignon which turned out to be a very nice drop and paired well with the shanks on offer at the reception.

Great Western reds are one of my favourites but I have a bias. The Vineyard was founded by my Great, great, great grandfather back in the 1860s. Unfortunately the family lost it in the crash of the 1890s.
Bin 0 is my favourite of their wines.
