West coast to BNE. Upgrade Y to J - Better chance from SFO or LAX? 2 June

Want to go US East Coast (Norfolk, VA - ORF) 2 june 11.
Purchasing Y ticket.Want to upgrade.
Have 50K UA miles. Seems to cost 15-30K miles for upgrade.
Do I have better chance from SFO or LAX? Any other suggestions?

ps As alternative - am also QFF Silver. 160K points - however no Classic awards of any use (actually can only get Y from LAX-SYD and J for SYD-BNE).

It will depend on seat availability. Your chances are probably better via LAX as UA is the only airline flying directly between SFO and Australia now, so there should be more available seats between LAX and SYD.
