Westjet lounge access QF status in USA

Seen a few threads on this but interested in any updated beta -

QF WP flying ex LAX on Westjet, but booked on QF points and it’s a QF codeshare.

Should be able to visit the QF F Lounge but wanted to see what experiences have been like assuming lounge attendants understand rules?

Also confirming that the new T2/3-TBIT airside link is now open (so a lounge visit is doable? )

When you say it's booked on points but also a QF codeshare, Is this a classic reward seat?

Most Westjet reward seats book with a WS flight number but if you've happened to end up with a QF flight number on your ticket then no problems.

The eligibility page has had a recent update and I'd argue they're clearer then ever before. If you've got a QF flight number then you get access and can even bring one guest who could be on any OW operated/marketed or QF flight numbered service.

That being said if the WestJet boarding pass doesn't display the fact that it's QF marketed then you may need to show the ticket.

As of August this year the connection opened and it means all LAX terminals are linked airside. If you've got time to kill then it's now possible to walk from T1 through to T8 via TBIT whilst remaining airside.

This would also mean earning status credits on the WS flight too (since it carries a QF flight number) supposing you hold Qantas Points Club status. Indeed, it seems like Qantas Canada (WestJet) is the only partner airline allowing you to book a classic award carrying a QF flight number:

Word of warning, I was booked on Westjet with a Qantas Codeshare transiting from SYD to LAX to LAX to YVR and was denied access at the lounge as a P1. Apparently due to the fact the partnership was not extended but the codeshare remained in place.

I did get retrospective compensation, as they agreed the website was incorrect. The lounge dragon in LAX wasn’t particularly pleasant or helpful either.

As per @henrus question, are you sure it’s a QF codeshare? QF Classic Rewards book under their native airline code (WS in this case). There are some exceptions but looking at current options, they either show QF to WS for CR booking OR QF to QF (codeshare) / WS (non-codeshare) on a paid revenue flight (including points+pay).

Yes, as above but carry a copy of the rules mentioned above.

Definitely for revenue flights. There are many posts here from when QF/EK started their partnership and being tripped up by both EK and QF flight codes options presented at booking.…

A while ago, I had to argue my way into the LAX F lounge flying FJ with QF code (booked direct via Qantas.com). Some staff are better than others understanding the QF code rule.

*also handy for SYD QF F lounge access! Not sure about SC earn as PC/PC+ but possibly.

If you are on any flight carrying a QF flight number you are by definition on a Qantas flight and therefore would certainly have access to any Qantas lounge based on your Qantas status.

Since the Qantas Canada (WestJet) flight carries a QF flight number as a classic award it would be considered a Qantas marketed flight award. Looking at the table they could earn 11 status credit (i.e. LAX-YYC, LAX-YVR, LAX-YEG) on those non-stop WS legs or potentially more if they have connections on Qantas Canada to other destinations in Canada.

See if you can find and book a QF Classic Reward (CR) on WestJet (WS) with a QANTAS (QF) code? That’s not a revenue / points+pay codeshare.

I‘m not convinced it’s possible. Happy to be proven wrong.

I must be missing something or unlucky because I spent many hours last year looking at Classic rewards availability to Canada as on option and couldn’t find any where Westjet came with a QF code.
The points plus pay flights had QF codes for the Westjet flights but the Classic reward flights all had WS codes from what I saw so I naturally just thought that’s how they all are. Would be interested to see if any CR QF codes on Westjet do exist
