If available on a particular flight it can be F and not R (Suites) too with only 4 seats all up.

There used to be multiple R flights per day with 12 seats.

Agreed. What CE (and the rest of the MEL-based SQ pax) are finding is due to the "loss" of a regular A380 MEL <-> SIN. What used to be a daily A380 in the form of SQ217/SQ218 has been replaced (for a while now) with a seasonal A380 service. For the majority of the year, a 777-300ER runs this particular flight.
RoutesOnline is always abreast of the changes.
What this means is that on a 12-seater R cabin on an A380, SQ generally let 2 (sometimes 3) R seats go for award redemption, whereas on a 4-seater F cabin on a 777, SQ would only let a single seat (if that) go for award redemption.
SYD has much better availability due to all-year-round A380 service, however this is also impacted (partially) by one of those services being the refurbished A380 with only 6 Suites as opposed to the "old" A380 with 12 Suites. SQ222 has the "old" Suites and SQ232 has the "new" Suites. For those not sure how to determine these, look at the aircraft registration: 9V-SKW/SKY are (two of the) refurbished birds.

If you have Qantas premier through Qantas Money you can still get the citibank sign up bonuses. Citi just administer the Qantas premier card, but it's not a citibank product as such.

Is it possible to grow your balance with credit card offers with Velocity points or do you exclusively use Amex and transfer to KF? Or are there cards with KF points bonuses?

pointhacks credit card table will give you the list of cards that earn KF points, as well as many other articles online and it pointhacks.

I'm QFF Lifetime Gold and points dribble into this account from some credit card obligation. I'm KFF Elite Silver. I have never looked back since moving to Virgin Australia some years ago. I accrue KF points by transferring points from VA (VA flights and Amex points to VA), and doing some paid SIA travel. I still have enough points to go First on QF JFK return but no chance of a points seat unless P or P1, so I will hang out for a genuine J seat sometime next year. Don't hold your breath. We now fly to Europe in F on SIA, using a mix of points and cash going over, and all points coming back. If you want to get onto the SIN-LHR flight with the new 6-berth First Suites (SQ322) you will have to pay cash+points; it will not appear as a point option. Otherwise, I've found F points redemption pretty easy on SIA if you book some time out and sometimes go through the torture of waitlisting. SQ service, food and comfort leave QF for dead, as you've discovered.

It's great to know it's possible to move my focus to KF.

Flying F on SQ is a dream I hope will come true one day. I did the EK F flight AKL-SYD earlier this year and it was SO much fun. Just wanted to cry when it was over.

I looked into Singapore when Virgin Atlantic withdrew from Australia back few years ago, because I got angry with availability of classic award from Qantas. I could never find availability for when I need to travel. No, Singapore does not allow me to travel anytime I want, but even their availability of saver award in J is much better than availability of classic award in J with Qantas.

I am easy to please as a passenger. I don't really change date, I booked, then I get on the plane, then I just want a comfortable seat to sleep, and food which is not too bad. Hence, availability is #1 to me. No point telling me how good is Qantas mini first class J (yeah right) if there is no award seat available.

Then there is this thing with QF charging you fuel fine which is sometimes like 50% of a cash ticket.

So now, I earn QF points when there is opportunity or when the earn burn ratio is good, but I always earn SQ miles as first preference.

Never put all your eggs in one basket. The best flight is the one thats available on the dates you need. QF are too easy to accumulate to ignore completely, and I've found good availability using partners for what we're redeeming.

KF has always delivered for me, but the harder accumulation mean I try and burn QF first, then KF.

Agree with you tizey as we have Kris ,QF, AA and VA for our travel. When there is nothing available with one we go with the others.

We collect points via amex and find Singapore to be the best use. In the past often in F but nowdays find more availability in
J. Tighter than it used to be but with a little flexability have always found suitable flights.
Booked last week to go to the Champagne region in France in April. (peak time due to Easter)Paris flights no go so searched other airports and ended
up with Frankfurt. A 4 .5 hour drive instead of a 2.5 hour drive.
Also considered airports further away, with a local transfer with
Ryan Air.
Just an aside, we find business class as good as, if not better, than first class years ago - I do not refer to suites !.
