What are 50,000 points worth? $500 $1000? Peanuts? Avocado?

G'day and 'scuse the ignorance!

I've not been a VFF, but I'm deciding whether to join & transfer my accumulated CC points (into a little over 50,000 velocity points, I believe).

The CC points are worth around $500 if taken as cash, by the way.

Is the relative value of points, redemption-wise, similar to QFF? I'd consider $500 for 50,000 QFF points very reasonable, but are Velocity points around the same value? (Esp. in the modern "fly-buys" era?).

I've done a little checking on point requirements, including for Etihad, and I think its similar ballpark to QFF style rates, but I'm no pro in this field!

(Oh, and, since it does have a bearing on values, I'm based in Perth ... so would not be looking at short East Coast flights, but rather either PER-SYD in J, or, eventually, PER-Europe or at least M/E in J).

I'll have to decide in the next day, to get the 15% xfer bonus.

Thanks to anyone who ventures an opinion!

It's ~35,000 VFF points to fly PER-SYD in J, so you'd get 1.5 trips (a little more if the figure is before the 15% bonus). Flight retails for close to $2K, so points are worth ~$3K. One of the best uses of VFF points. You could also buy Flexi fares and upgrade using 10,000 points. Your 10,000 points are then valued at $1.5K.

Thanks for that, AdMEL.

So ... I just joined, got a membership number, and transferred the CC points straight away!

They were deducted instantly from my CC account, but not showing up yet on the VFF account. I trust they will soon!

Thanks.

(BTW: The transfer ended up at around 65,000 VFF points)

The value depends on how you use your points.
I personally us a combination of rewards (which is the "best value" of points and the value will depend on economy or business) and pay&points (which isn't the best use of points, but you earn status credits ... So I can retain status and also points on the trip). So value all depends what they are used for.
The value of what my balance is ... I calculate each point as being worth 1 cent. But really has no value until used.

Many people will so don't do this, don't use that for your points. However, use them as you please :-)

It totally depends on your situation, but if you value velocity points at 1.5c+ plus (which I certainly do) then 50k points is worth $750+)
