I was transiting through SIN twice last week and had an average experience at in First Class Lounge both times and it got me thinking....

I wanted a nice hot shower before my next flight, and both times, the shower was a best mildly warm. I transit through HKG and BKK mainly, and enjoy the lounges and certainly the showers....

So back to the essence of the thread... For me a nice hot shower during transit is a 'little thing' I almost can't do with out while traveling. I do also love breakfast in the CX F Lounges when I land, a lovely Asian breakfast is always a highlight. For others it's the Champagne or massages in the First Class Lounge in MEL or SYD, or maybe that regular restaurant or hotel you love to visit as soon you land in another country.

What are the 'little things' you can't do without?

For me a 'nice hot shower' is way, way up there.
Favourite place... a cabana in CX's Wing at HKG.

Food's nice, bubbly's nicer as a 'special touch'

A G&T before a long haul... It's about the only time I ever have G&T's, so you could say it's a drink I associate with adventures in far away lands...

Showers yes! Totally agree on that one! It's such a mood changer.
Freshly ground real coffee and ice in my ginger ale... both done well by CX and QF lounges.
Heaps of moisturiser and lip balm. High heels, even when they are totally impractical.
And of course the entertainment... sexy older man watching in lounges is great.. love the gender imbalance.
Oh and WIFI. Vital.

Must say I rarely pack my High Heels, but that's just me! :) And as for sexy older men... again, I'll leave that to you! :D

I was going to reply with 'a scarf' - and after I read the comments here - realised what I have been missing out on! Feel a bit silly now as I have never been into a airport 'lounge' - sounds amazing! massages, real coffee etc....recently joined Qantas/Jetstar and noticed that I can get into the lounge for $10 if I book online with my ticket - ay have to try this out :)

I believe that is limited to the JQ lounge at OOL, from what I have read not really worth it. A better way to go is to read the Meetings and Social Events page and see when people are flying \ put in your own flight details. Every so often the stars will align and you'll get QP \ VA Lounge \ J Lounge \ F Lounge access.

Thanks for that Harvyk - it was OOL that I was thinking of going into - so happy for the feedback - . you have given me something to look for now -
I will still always take a scarf tho (doubles as a 2nd layer, can be used as a towel, a pillow, jazzes up travel clothes or hair so that I look like an ordinary person :); a belt; can tie luggage together with it; can give it as a gift; cover eyes with it whe trying to sleep in a bright place; as a bandage; wrap breakables in it - endless really (seasoned backpacker gets to know how to use 1 item for many things :)

If you're an alcoholic, not you in particular, the OOL JQ Lounge is quite a good spot, with alcohol flowing freely from the taps at first light, or possibly even before then. It's not too bad of a lounge other than that. The food is catered very much towards the Japanese clientele as you can fly JQ to Japan from OOL. It's good food, away from the general riff raff. Costs $5 extra to get in at the door if you haven't pre-purchased, and if you ever get to QF WP, it's free entry, strangely.



... Hmm ... missing the high heels... and next ( ) time I feel I'm being 'watched'... well, not sure what I'll do

In transit totally agree with the shower. For longer stays the wifi is also high on the list.

Not a big drinker (shock) but my lounge visitors make up for it.

I'm with you missafternoondelight :)
Nothing better at boosting an outfit than a pair of great heels.
WARNING: Do not try this out in Long -haul economy as it will end in tears and you will resemble one of Cinderella's ugly sisters trying to cram your feet into the shoes :D
I also love hot showers, browsing the cosmetics and perfume at the duty-free, Champagne and my favourite dessert is the Pav in the glass at the Flounge

When I am travelling a hot shower and a shave.

And i like to wear a cap so I can pull it down and not get sun or any other lights in my eyes.

Don't like the eye covers.

I also will have a scotch or 2 to make me sleep on a long flight.

Is internet a little thing?
I travel with a laptop, iPad and smartphone, all with independent internet connectivity.

On board I just have to put up with "going dark" and read my ebook.

Maybe I could print out a hard copy of the internet for easy reference (jks)

Happier now since I replaced my MBP an MBA :p
...except now I lug a good sized camera bag around when I travel overseas
