I'm looking at a sudden change in plans - am due to fly on a one way Classic Reward fare PVG-HKG (on Cathay) onto QF HKG-SYD-MEL-BWT - in about four hours time - would like to know what the fees and points loss will be for cancelling?

Usually CR changes are 5000 points penalty plus any fare & points difference for the new flights.. Not sure what will be the impact for changing it 4 hours before departure. If you are at the airport may be the Sales desk can offer some advice or call QF CC.

Edit: Re-read your post carefully this time. The penalty for cancellation of CR is 6000 QF points. However, not sure if the 4 hours prior departure might have any additional penalties (I don't think so though). Tax paid via $ will be refunded to payment method in 6 to 8 weeks. Points refund might take some time (although there have been instances where the points refund was almost instant).

14.6.2 Tickets issued for travel on Qantas, oneworld Member Airlines or Airline Partners (including Jetstar Airlines) may be submitted for refund and re-credit prior to commencement of any travel on the Itinerary. A Cancellation Refund Fee

Just a 6k points fee per booking if cancel prior to commencing travel, get the rest of the points refunded (Edit to add and $$ paid for surcharges) No $ cost.

I believe Avianca LM is one of the ones that allows cancellation even after departure so you pay cancellation and get points back.. Any other program anyone know of that allows similar? Points back in case of no-show?

What happened??
Same lady on the flight?

CX 777-300's and some of their A350's don't have the air vents in the overhead panel in Y - now considering that Cathay is based in Hong Kong which tends to be a fairly warm and humid place the decision not have air vents is right up there on the dumb scale with installing a massive concrete block at the end of a certain runway in South Korea.

Because of the F1 grand prix, PVG was an extra busy airport yesterday. All passengers were on board, ground power had been disconnected, and that is when the problem started - because of all of the extra traffic it took more than an hour to get pushback clearance - with the plane sitting on the tarmac in the sun with those of us inside being oven-baked - with no way of getting any airflow because of the stupid decision by Cathay to order the planes without air vents. At least one passenger was looking rather unwell by the time we did finally get pushed back - it was ridiculously hot inside the plane. I simply can't understand why Cathay made the decision not to have the air vents installed when every other airline that I have ever flown has always had them fitted - it just makes no sense at all - it is beyond stupid. I mean if Alaska Airlines has air vents in their cabins then why the hell would an airline that is headquartered in a hot humid place choose not to have them?

Then to add to the late arrival into HKG we were made to circle an offshore wind farm for 15+ minutes. I think a fair few people missed connections, I didn't even get to the QF lounge due to the delays, but I was more worried about the heat in the cabin than having no time to get to the lounge. It is fair to say that there were a lot of pretty angry passengers by the time we arrived in HKG.

Must admit that's a pet peeve of mine when flying. Of course CX are far from being outliers when it comes to this.
Ah OK - I wasn't aware that there are others! Please post a list and I will add a little black mark next to them too!

Cheers!

I lost interest in making the changes right about...

You have to call up the customer service desk. Online via MMB not possible under 24hrs.
6000 points per pax fee.
Although I have not done so in the last 12 months, I have cancelled half a dozen classic reward bookings online less than 24 hours before scheduled departure of the first flight. Two of those were after I have checked in. They may have altered the interface.

In each case the only cost was the prevailing award cancellation fee.
