The airlines' networks have been hit by a seismic event prompting airlines and governments to take significant actions in regard to mainland China routes.

What are the opportunities for (healthy) travellers?{

Getting cheap hotel spots here in Australia which those Chinese tour groups have left vacant?

Finding where airlines can quickly add extra capacity internationally? Maybe that's hard as I presume more routes to say USA would need regulatory approval, which is not a short term solution.

Routing via HKG to other destinations, maybe spare capacity ?

Using the Chinese carriers and using China as a transit to Europe or USA?

}

Where to look for advantage from the situation?

Would also like to know about cheap hotels in Aus (so I can book my free amex flight).

Just hoping existing plans for 5 weeks of travel to 3 countries 🛫🛬🚌🛫🛬🚌🚢🛫🛬🚌🐫🛫🛬 via the middle east don't get derailed by embargoes caused by the virus exploding in that region as well. 🙏

The Chinese carriers are going to be effectively locked out of many nations due to the travel ban on Chinese citizens. Wouldn't be surprised to say majority of flights suspended.

Could well be some good domestic specials due to tour group cancellations

Beat me to it. I think the numbers of travellers in North Queensland must be down significantly. Opportunity to have a good holiday with cheap airfares but needs the hotels to come to the party. what’s the likelihood.

I was thinking that for now, no immediate pressure as (maybe) tour group accom is prepaid or insurance will cover it. The smart operators would seek to sell the rooms a second time I would have thought.

OK, so I think that's a positive hit for Cairns & North Qld are places to watch

I personally wouldn't be booking any last minute cruises. The risk of infection is much higher on a ship.

Oh - I completely agree - just pointing out that if enough cruisers hold the same view, cruises will be discounted (I'm not a cruiser, so basically making some assumptions).

I am hoping there might be a few more lobsters and big prawns showing up!!
Last weekend there were handwritten roadside signs all the way down the channel (southern Tasmania) advertising cheap cray / lobster. Our gain!
