What are the travel opportunities in light of 2019 Novel Coronavirus?

Last weekend there were handwritten roadside signs all the way down the channel (southern Tasmania) advertising cheap cray / lobster. Our gain!

And that's what should happen in a free market. Prices driven in accordance to supply and demand.

The decision by WA company to order the fleet to stop fishing to hold the price up at astronomical levels is an abomination.

Its also possible that some or most what is being put forward it isnt correct. Panic is more deadly than a virus that is not new..
Take this as you will but there is a lot of information to be found about the co incidence of the timing- who is making money from it and watch how if suddenly there is a vaccine available- which would normally take years to be tested... fyi there was a corona virus test run done in November..Event 201
All i am saying is do your own research- with intelligence and an open mind...not fear and panic based on media with an agenda. then decide what is safe for your own lifestyle and awareness. then grab a good deal if one is there.

Conspiracy theory much? So, there was a "test run" in November for an illness not ever been reported before early January, and with incubation period of 2 weeks? Right, got it!

I also wonder whether some of the SEAsian carriers might start redirecting capacity to Australia to at least keep aircraft busy

Maybe you mistakenly posted this in the wrong forum. We do have a separate humour thread ;)

I have wondered if there might be an opportunity for travellers to fill the gaps left by Chinese nationals not allowed entry. Time to check out lastminute.com?

The best bargain of all might be being able to go visit some of the worlds highlights without being overrun by oblivious Chinese tour groups...
well, for the next month or so anyway.
Yup...going to the Sydney Fish market this weekend...haven't been for years as overun by tourists and expensive seafood. I gather there is an oversupply of mud crabs and lobsters as China has bannned live imports due to coranavirus :)

Oh - I completely agree - just pointing out that if enough cruisers hold the same view, cruises will be discounted (I'm not a cruiser, so basically making some assumptions).
Discounting already starting. Princess cruises in Japan up to 60% off. Sydney to London 52 days Sea Princess ocean view now discounted from $15000 to $7000. Golden Princess relocation Sydney to LA in April facing health restrictions in Samoa and French Polynesia. Port closures and more restrictions possible if virus continues to spread. Some booked passengers are already getting nervous about this cruise,

Yeah, but the one thing I wouldn't want to do right now is get on a cruise that boards anywhere in Asia. It only takes one person to get a sniffle and you'll be like that ship stuck in SIN.

Is this on the Princess site, or some other site?

Our fishers in SA just stopped fishing.

there was a corona virus test run done in November.

The fact that the current virus is called 'novel' coronavirus makes me think that coronaviruses have been known about for a while, and that this one is a 'novel', ie new, variant. Personally I doubt they were working on a vaccine for novel coronavirus in November.

SARS and MERS are also species of coronavirus. They are using the term "novel" because it's more PC than calling it Wuhan Coronavirus, based on its originating location (ala Spanish Flu, MERS etc, West Nile Fever etc).

From what has been posted up thread before and I read from government publications and the WHO site

There are many coronaviruses

SARS and MERS are also coronaviruses

The common cold and the "annual flu's are coronaviruses

The annual flu shot has up to 4 vaccines for various coronaviruses that governments and their advisers deem to be the most prevalent in the upcoming season.

Laboratories would always working year round on vaccines for coronaviruses to prepare for the upcoming flu season in various parts of the world as they cycle through the seasons. No laboratory would have been working on this specific coronavirus in November because it wasn't discovered until December.

A panel has been convened to determine what the official title of the 2019-nCov will be called to remain politically correct. There are a series of rules like it can't contain the name of a country or city or animal etc etc etc.

This was sounding interesting for me. I need to go to LA in April.

The trip is too long though and ends in May.

I would have loved getting that one through the home department.

Since December I've been monitoring a return Itinerary for April dates BNE-LAX-LAS which has been oscillating between $1 200 - $1,500. Today is the first time I've seen it below $1k with Virgin and United both offering these fares.
