Not sure what's next - I'll probably revert to some e-books on my tablet as that's my go-to when travelling rather than lugging kilos of books around

I have been using a dedicated eReader for years - they're so much smaller (can hold them in one hand) and the battery lasts a lot longer than a tablet. Perfect for when you're hanging around for flights, flights are delayed, and so on. I don't like the back-light effect from tablets for when I'm reading, although you do need a separate light source for the eReader.

MrsK and I have gone down the Kobo route, so we're not locked into the Kindle/Amazone universe, and use Calibre to manage the books, as well as buying them from the Kobo store.

I weighed up getting one, but I don't read e books that often, only when travelling. And a tablet provides more options such as checking emails and watching movies/TV shows.
But I do like eReaders as a concept and if I didn't collect physical books I'd have made the switch years ago

It annoys me that swmbo spends a lot of money (imo) on kindle ebooks. I prefer something tangible as my collection of books shows, same with spotify, I much prefer being able to read liner notes or even just hold the sleeve/case.

I buy very few hard copy books and rely on the library for most of my books. I do have a kindle which I use when travelling because it's light and easy to use. I do resent though that I can't share the books I bought with others from my kindle. In fact I have a brand new kindle because my other is on a TGV somewhere in France

We do both. We get hard copies of special books that we keep in the bookcase, and bring out to re-read, especially with the grandkids. I'm the same with my music - I prefer something tangible like a CD or LP. But, Spotify is useful for checking out new music, which I then go and buy direct from the artist if I can.

Some libraries provide a lending service for eBooks - which you can tie into a Kindle or Kobo reader. One reason I went with the Kobo reader is their support for the epub format, which I can also load onto my ReMarkable notebook. I'm part of a network of people where we share our epub files amongst ourselves once we've read a book, and it's unlikely we will read them again - the same way you would do it with hard copy books.

We also have a lot of paper books packed away but I prefer an e-reader for the convenience
A major problem with the kindle-verse, is that the books are all attached to the hardware.
My well used Oasis is about to lose it's battery and it cannot practically repaired.
Amazon are discontinuing the Oasis and I need to buy a replacement asap while there is still some stock.
Currently re reading Jungle of Stone by William Carlsen; the story of Stevens and Catherwoods discovery and
documentation of the Central American Maya cities.

You are correct ; I guess I was more reflecting the lack of having something material like a book compared to the words in the cloud.
I seem to recall loading a kindle reader app to one of my laptops sometime..

I think there's an app for phones too. I don't have a Kindle, but I've got a few free books from the Google books app.

Yep, apps available for computer, tablet and phone. I have - but rarely use - each.

Kindle is available as an app on most platforms. we no longer use the old kindle device but use the app on iPad and iPhone. Amazon login controls it all.

Gosh I've been so busy lately I forgot to update. I finished that book which was really quite interesting. There were moments when I felt the gap between today and when the book was published. For example it talked about the Higgs boson as theoretical, because it hadn't been discovered yet. But overall, a great overview of science-y things that I know little about.

I'm currently reading Dune by Frank Herbert at work during lunches.

But at home I recently finished Inkheart by Cornelia Funke and am on to the sequel, Inkspell.

I haven't 'read' anything by Candice Fox, but I did listen to an audiobook of hers earlier in the year. It was quite good. I can't recall the title though...

If you like crime, her books are excellent. I haven’t listened to any of the audio books so can’t comment on how they sound.

I am a bit of a raving fan of Candice, though!

Finished the final book in the Inkheart trilogy, Inkdeath. Apparently a sequel is being published this year and is due out shortly - what timing! I've put in my pre-order.

Attempted a couple of books after finishing Inkdeath. One called Book of Shadows, not worth continuing, so that's off to the next little library I see. I also wanted to try Land of Stories by Chris Colfer (of Glee fame). It is pitched at kids aged 8-13 probably, but I was curious. It was entertaining, but I'm not the target demographic.

But have started in earnest the first book in the Great Library series, Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine. Being a librarian I may be biased, but it's got a great premise. The library in Alexandria survived and is the source of the world's knowledge, but at what cost? No one is allowed to keep original books, all must be stored in the library and there are library soldiers who might search for illegal copies. There are dissenters called Burners who feel that knowledge should be free for all, not controlled. I'm about 80 pages in so far and I'm hooked!
