4pm late checkout has proven to be most useful to me.

As well as the guarantee that I won't be stuck in a broom closet.
Suites are a bonus but I'd rather have a well-designed room than a large suite. Case in point: I prefer the G&A-designed Fantastic Suite at the W Hong Kong to either of the larger Marvellous Suites and would always ask for a downgrade to the Fantastic Suite if I'm ever upgraded to Marvellous.

Other than that - I think free internet is also good but it's something hotels should be offering for free anyway. It always boggles the mind how cheaper hotels like 4P or small boutique hotels offer free internet whilst more expensive and bigger chain hotels with more resources at their disposal charge you through the nose for internet.

Don't really care about:
Lounge access - most lounges are staid and too quiet for my liking. Unless happy hour includes free champagne (and even then I'm less inclined to bother if I happen to be away from the hotel)

Free breakfast - far prefer checking out the local restaurants and cafes. No hotel has ever made me a decent soy latte.

Credit card pairing/earn-burn ratio - nice but not essential. The quality of the hotel is more important.

Overrall, I prefer going for quality than choosing a hotel based solely on FF perks. I've long avoided the Starwooods in Singapore for instance. Of course, it'd be nice if the best of both Worlds are offered. ;)

Spot the oxymoron

Well that depends:
  • If you're talking about a latte from a free breakfast offered at a hotel, then 'decent' could be the problem.
  • If you're talking about a good cup of milk coffee, then 'soy' may be your problem.

I, on the other hand, do appreciate a soy latte and it tastes great, but if trying to make a good latte is an art form then making a soy latte is like trying to pray for divine intervention.

Plenty of places here and overseas that make the perfect soy latte or soy chai latte. :D As a general rule, bon soy (hopefully the non poisoned variety) is better and froths nicer, albeit a little more expensive.

Also - the premium check in line is a great idea in theory. But in practise, with very rare exceptions, this benefit is never honoured. Most hotels display the priority check in signs but seem to allow anyone to check in anywhere. Some offer the option of checking in or out at the lounge.

Once again great comments. It's giving me quite a bit to think about.

I'm attempting to develop a website that gives the statistical perspective of different loyalty programs. Admittedly, I am an amateur in web design and there are a lot of programs to cover for just one person. However, I am persisting and hopefully will be able to provide some data for AFF at the very least :)
