What can I expect on Air New Zealand as Airpoints Gold member on upcoming TT flight?

Hey everyone

I just got upgraded to Airpoints Gold member and I have an upcoming TT flight (AKL-SYD) and was wondering what kind of service I can expect from Air New Zealand.. Any experiences are welcome

Did you get personal welcomes from FAs onboard? And did you get security / immigration express passes given to you onboard as a Air NZ Gold?
BTW, I'm only booked in economy (Y) class..

Also, how is the Koru lounge in AKL and the Air New Zealand lounge in SYD?

Hey buddy

I have found Air NZ to be fairly inconsistent in giving express passes/personal welcomes etc on board. The service is also hit and miss depending on the crew. Bear in mind that the airline is essentially a budget TT offering depending on the fare level you choose. If you haven't booked yet, try to book on the flights that aren't on the A320 as these planes are rubbish with only 30" pitch. THe lounge in Sydney is pretty good, it is one of their best. The one in Auckland is nice but is often crowded and don't expect any decent food. The barista coffee ain't half bad. Basically don't expect too much - I'm gold elite and regret putting my points towards Air NZ (and flying with them as of late as well!)

How did you find the flight? My last TT from AKL to BNE i got a surprise upgrade to premium economy. Was quite pleased.

There is no premium economy service sold in AirNZ TT flights.

What you you had was a PE seat with service as per your S2S ticket.

As an NZ Gold Elite, I have never not had a PE seat when in economy on a 777.

Does buying a works or works delux enable you to get a PE seat or will a seat only with koru ,gold or gold elite be enough?

There is no premium economy service sold in AirNZ TT flights.

As an NZ Gold Elite, I have never not had a PE seat when in economy on a 777.

As gold, koru and gold elite in the last 18months, I have conversely only ever sat in PE on the 777. Its easier now they've eased the restrictions but previousky you had to buy works.

teal747 - unless you have status, you will need to buy works deluxe. You can do a dummy booking, put in your details then go through to seat selectiom prior to paying to see what is available

I see so it is first in first serve
they don't 'hold ' any seats back for people who have status but not chosen their seat

Most have to pay to select seats these days, extra for these PE seats.

Remember, it's still S2S/economy service even in the better seats.

They do hold some back for statused passengers if they are not taken, but I am not familiar with the details as I don't book S2S.

For what it may be worth, the introduction of S2S was the beginning of the end of my 5 year journey with AirNZ.

There was a very nice lasagne the last time was at the AKL International Koru Lounge. Otherwise, the food offerings were meagre. Full spirits at the bar. Quirky system of having to write down your coffee order and then place it in a tray and the barista then makes it.
