From one POV I can understand it, as people like myself who absolutely hate doing it get roped into doing it, and it's really easy to prioritise work where customers are jumping up & down and which I don't suck at - as opposed to the interviewing, which I do suck at.
But you can't treat people like that, so drink a pint of meth & snort a line of triple-espresso & just get into it.
The job-market was somewhat different in 2004 c/f now, and after doing the first interview my current employer took 2 months to get back to me to arrange the 2nd. I was being a little fussy & it wasn't like now where recruiters will chase you down the street & tackle you, so I was still available ... but that was also a case of the bloke who was in charge of it not really wanting to do it (plus he was full-time posted in NZ on a software implementation project at the time & the other two guys in the office didn't know anything about it plus not wanting to ... so the response I got was always "told you last time, he's in New Zealand and he'll get back to you as soon as he can").
