What cheeses me off

Ok. So finally a resolution after many calls including to Home Affairs and various people at Medicare and two visits to Medicare offices.

Home affairs have no record whatsoever of sending any advice to Medicare. There is no record of an unresolved visa in any of their systems (as expected).

Medicare have resolved that despite an acknowledgment the advice should not have been sent there is nothing they can do to stop the cancellation of the Medicare card and a new one will be issued and sent via snail mail.

Oh and they refuse to divulge why the card was cancelled or what went wrong in Medicare processes, nor issue a letter of apology nor a certification that my partner is a citizen and the card should not have been cancelled.

😡 🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬
I feel that one is worthy of a computer to your MP or an FOI or something, if you have the time and heart to do it. That’s disgusting

A letter to MP will in all likelihood be forwarded to the department and probably at non-executive level to respond (as in "The Minister has asked that I respond on his behalf") and if Medicare wouldn't tell you anything, they sure as heck will not admit anything in a letter. It will be along the lines of "I am disappointed to hear of the cancelling go your partner's medicare card and the frustration you have faced as a result" etc etc. I have some understanding of these processes.

You’ve be surprised, when some people demand answers they tend to get more than the short shrift given to the public.

Unlike poor Adelaide and their recent supposedly high temperatures a heatwave has been declared in Tasmania and in some areas severe.
A 'severe heatwave' was declared for large parts of Tasmania as temperatures reached the high 20s, and overnight lows were in the high teens.

reminds me of the time I was working in Latrobe and the local paper, The Advocate, had A page 1 headline - 3 day heatwave forecast. And for the 3 days the forecast temperatures were 26,27 and 28C. I thought a cool summers day.
On the first day I ever worked at the Mersey hospital when I walked in the staff were complaining how hot and humid it was. I said have you noticed I am wearing a jumper? Yesterday at home on the Sunshine Coast it was 32C and 90+% humidity so a temperature here of 18C and 40% humidity I consider cold not hot or humid.

Agreed
Have had x3 such direct comms with federal member in past 5 years — all of which were promptly addressed and resolved in less than 48 hrs
if it is something that can be addressed and resolved that's fine and there are cases where that has happened - in this case the department considers that the issue is resolved as the person is now back receiving Medicare benefits.

WCMO is using my annual Amex travel credit only to find a card charge for "American Express Travel Online". It is still pending so I cannot dispute it yet. If they indicate they are passing on the merchant charge (Mantra Hotels) I will be pointing out Mantra indicate they do not accept cash, not that I expect it will make one iota difference. Grrr

WCMO is planning a visit to Edinburgh without realising its peak season. Ibis prices A$600/night and up! D'Oh! Its tattoo time.

So I bought a ticket, good seat and that Ibis downtown for 2 nights.
What do tickets cost these days?
I attended a technical course in Edinburgh in 1977, the year of the Queens Silver Jubilee. Tickets must have been reasonably priced as we went twice.

We've had a very pleasant week of temps between 25 and abt 29 degrees. Of course the local BOM issued an 'Heatwave warning'. Even the media questioned why. 'Cos its above average and some people will find it uncomfortable' or words to that effect.

People are simply not allowed to be uncomfortable anymore. It all has to be perfect. We've taken away people's ability to think for themselves and work out their own solutions.

OMG I hear you. Everyone has opinions and if they want to live their life that way then go for it but please don't judge others on your opinions.
Where to start?

Do not stand and smoke in front of a mini bus with open door where smoke goes inside.

Yes this is Thailand and yes it's your right to smoke where you want but for FFS have a little common sense. It's my right sitting in mini bus not to breathe in your filthy recycled cigarette smoke. I should not have to tell you.

At least 2 of them doing this every day. One of them even apologised after my rant but continues to do it. I will judge them and have no respect for them.

Abt GBP90 for ordinary seats, I think GBP1,000 for the best. Mine, at the end corner with clear view GBP140.

We must have paid next to nothing as young people prepared to go back on another evening. We sat smack bang on the side, half way up. I expect they have worked out a way to increase the seating since 1977. Good investment then. ;)

I am thinking about the Tattoo for August 2026.
A friend and I went in the early 2000s - was a great night from memory. I do remember waiting to buy tickets when they came on sale - midnight our time, couldn't get on so left it till about 6am and picked up seats half way up looking straight down the parade ground. I was not going to sit in any seats that were hanging over the side. 😁
